Pain in chest when breathing in

Oh well got a flare again :(( I keep thinking I have pulled muscles in my legs but sure it is just fibro again!

Main issue is though I feel pain in my chest when breathing in like a bruised feeling, does anyone else have this with fibro? It also hurts anyway rest of the time.

Thanks,

lucykris

Hi Lucykris. I would advise you to see your doctor about this. about 3 years ago I had chest pain, not very painful, my Dr done an ECG and blood test just to rule out anything with my heart it all seemed fine. a couple of weeks ago I had pain everywhere as we do! including my chest, my bf insisted on calling a paramedic, my ECG at home was ok, but she said I should go to the hospital, My second ECG at the hospital was not right, so had to stay in over night, I'm now on statins until they do an angiogram.

I don't want to scare you but its always best to get it checked out. perhaps you have an infection. but either way pop along to your GP and get checked out

Hugs xx

CHest pain should always be investigated. I get chest pain and have done for many years, certainly well before fibro hit. One of the first instances saw me in an ambulance being carted to hospital. They orginally thought I had a blood clot, turned out it was an infection. I get a fair few infections and have asthma but the cough and pain (which comes and goes) never fully left. It's been over 10 years now. Beyond x-rays I've never ha further investigation, which says alot about the NHS (in my experience).

Go to your GP. Have it listened to and checked. Good luck.

I get chest pain too and my GP arranged a cardiograph and blood tests. All OK. But saying that, the one thing you should not ignore is chest pain. I used to be a care assistant and it was the one thing we always called 999 to check things out. The paramedics do an ECG and BP etc. Often all would be well and off they'd go but sometimes they had to rush the person to A&E with a serious heart problem. Please don't ignore it, but don't be too worried as often, more often then not its not a heart problem at all but you do need to check out.

There are many reasons for chest pain and its always scary. Get it checked out, but also consider is it where a strap presses? I've been having pain from my bra. It doesn't feel tight, but its too tight for FM!

Also, a few years ago I had Pleurisy and that was nasty - pain wise. Really hurt to breath in and pain increased to an unbearable level when attempting to lay down! One of the signs I understand. The hospital tried to get me to lay down for xrays, but it would leave me in a cold sweat and refusing. Eventually they tried by getting me medicated, but it felt like a bubble of air was ripping my lung from my rib. As soon as I sat up it eased. Pleurisy is likened to sandpaper between the lung and the wall of the ribcage. Breath lightly and try not to panic. Keep calm, stay upright and seek help. If you have pleurisy I recommend sleeping in a chair or fully propped up. I couldn't raise my legs. The good news is I got better.

So sorry if any of this scares you. I am trying to point out that there are other things than a heart attack that could be happening, and fully recoverable from. But don't assume anything. Get help. Get checked out.

Keep in touch and hope you feel better soon.

Soft hugs

Hi, how are you today. Saw your question today, and thought I would reply. I have had this chest/muscle pain several times. I have used my tramadol to help the chest pain. Also, my doctor has given me traxam mousse, that has pain relief medication in it. You can rub this on the chest. It was quite scary when I got this pain, as I also have heart disease. So I don't always know if it's my heart or my fibro. The pain really restricts my breathing at times. Definitely get it checked out at the doctor's though, if you haven't already been. Good luck with it all, and lots of love xxx

Gosh I am so soorry you are having such a tough time of it, I know you have tried most things to sooth it but have you tried making sure there is some moisture in your air that you breath. It can be achieved simply by making sure you place bowls of water near your radiators.

Also a bowl of warm water and use steam inhalations.

I hope it helps

Thinking of you

I see someone's mentioned pleurisy above, I've had that, it's really painful. Also I've had a different pain which is a vice-like grip and can't breathe in. It feels like a heart attack. I've also heard that costochonditis (excuse spelling) causes chest pain and is linked to fibro.

Hi all thanks so much for your support and responses. I have had an ECG and various heart monitors and all seems ok, the pain has eased for the time being, sure it us part and parcel of fibro! Hugs to all of you and hope that you start to feel better soon or at least have some respite from all these symptoms! Xxxxx
