Hi Im new: Hello everyone Ive suffered... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Hi Im new
Hello. I only recently joined this site and have found empathy and support, I hope you do too. My advice would be to insist your GP refer you to a rheumatology consultant for a confirmed diagnosis. He / she may want to run tests to rule out other causes ( you may have had tests already - I had blood tests for inflammatory markers and an MRI to rule out arthritis ). Regarding potential drugs other than pain killers like paracetomol and brufen etc to help, these need to be chosen carefully and tried as some may have side effects which affect you (I say this from experience). You can also ask your GP for a referral for cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and research local community hospitals for support groups. If you are formally dianosed with fibro your partner, family and friends may need to know more about the symptoms you experience to help you cope. I hope this is helpful. For what it is worth, you are not alone and we understand your pain and fatigue. X
Hi and a warm welcome to our community. Here you will find information support friendship and laughter too. You can find general information on fibromyalgia at our main website fmauk.org
You can get Fibromyalgia at any age ... So your Dr was wrong in saying you were to old.
I don’t take any medication like many on here as the side effects were awful. I rely on diet, Epsom salt baths, heat pads, tens machine, chiropractor sessions and hypnotherapy and very gentle exercise. Fibro is different for all of us so what works for one may not work for another so it is very much a case of trial and error. Good luck in finding what works for you.
Hi Dinkie I glad to hear that I am not the only one who is unable to take strong medication. Do you think its the fibro that makes us more sensitive to the drugs. Ive tried herbal sleeping tablets and I feel awful for days. Just ordered Turmeric and something and black pepper, will see if that helps. I find being out of my own environment triggers tight muscles, and other symptoms, not sure what thats about. X
There are many of us on here who can't tolerate prescription drugs. I use epsom salts in the bath for muscle pain and heatpads. Have you tried Imove - it's the human version of Yumove for dogs and horses. Natural product, green lipped mussel based. The dog version worked well for my old dogs but when I tried Imove it didn't work for me although my friend with fibro swears by it. Again it's that thing that fibro is different for all of us and what works for one may not work for another.
I used that for my elderly cat and it really helped. I didn't realise there was a human version, will order today. I use a green muscle gel on my knees, it feels good but not sure how effective it is. Trying a different diet. Ive cut out carbs, but I have not been feeling that great, and the fatigue keeps rearing its ugly head. Thats for reply, so good to hear of new things to try. X
I was in my 60s before i was diagnosed, so don't give up!
Cheers, Midori
