Hi can anyone answer this as I’ve been trying to find out is Fibromyalgia some thing we are born with or is it some thing that just comes about . And is it some thing that you can have in your child hood I’m just trying to work all this out as I didn’t have much strength when I was a kid so just wondering when this would start at what age as a lot of the symptoms I’ve had ever since child hood but winded if it was this or some thing else Many thanks

And god bless you all xx

The simple answer is ... We don't know. There may be a genetic disposition ... So yes, for some people they might have been born with it, and it's then triggered by some form of trauma in later life. Yes children can have fibromyalgia and I've spoke to many people who have suspected they have had symptoms since childhood although not diagnosed until they were older.

I agree with Hazel. I would add however that females present with Fibro more 10:1 to males. Genetics can play a part in some families. In our support group a few years back we had a mother with adult daughter both with Fibro. I understand Fibromyalgia is now used to describe what earlier generations might have call fibrosis or something similar. Unfortunately children with pains are often told 'growing pains'. A teenager does grow very quickly at certain stages but pain in all the body along with associated symptoms never was 'growing pains' I will speculate that some people may well have had uncalled for surgery because no one put the 'jigsaw' of collective symptoms just heard maybe knee pain and dealt with that only.

Nobody seems to have been able to give a definitive answer for this. I know from an early age I used to have really bad pains an aches in my leg muscles and was always having infections and had a long spell in hospital and then s convalescent home. My mother never gave me any sympathy as I am sure she just thought I was saying it to get off going to school. In fact I was dying to go to school as an only child it was marvellous to have other children to play with.

I learnt somehow to just get on with life even though I was always in some degree of pain. I then had a bad fall, several people close to me died and my husband had a complete mental breakdown, I caught shingles and the pain around my ribcage and thoracic area started in earnest and the muscle pains increased to such an extent I reluctantly had to give up work.

Many people have developed it after an operation or after a period of great stress . I know my Mom and several of the female members of her family suffered with what they called fibrositis.x

I started with joint pains when I was about 8 years old.

I've had it since I was a child. I remember having strange symptoms since then.

I can honestly say that having this condition has altered my life so much and not for the best. I feel cheated. I could have done a lot more and have a much better life. I've had to settle for less sadly. Doctors say that it's a result of abuse as a child but I don't think so. Like many other illnesses the cause is yet unknown. And I will have to fight it till I die. Let's hope that some day they will come up with a cure 🤞

Yes like you I think I’ve had this since childhood I never had much strength or energy then and I’ve been told what might have triggered it off is when I got knocked off my bike when I was about 10 . And like you I might have had a better life if it wasn’t for this so it looks like you and I might well be in the same boat so take care xx
