I'm usually well prepared for virus outbreaks all year round as have a weak immune system, I'm not sure panic buying helps the wider population as it leaves the shelves empty and means others cant access what they need.
Putting things into perspective, seasonal flu has already killed thousands in uk and does so every year, Covid 19 has been confimed in 5 deaths who were already very poorly, the media does not say they died of coronavirus, but that they had underlying conditions which they were already hospitalised for and that covid 19 was co-morbid.
Try not to worry... all the media hype and propaganda is causing alot of people to feel very anxious but most who catch covid 19 will experience mild symptoms and recover. 😊

I have an autistic daughter who is very anxious about Coronavirus, we have been researching statistics and facts so that she can gain a realistic perspective based on facts. It's been a great help to her and very interesting.
I can understand how worrying it is. UK scientists are saying that that covid 19 cant survive for very long outside, so we are very unlikely to have a mass lockdown like Italy have.
Most virus are unable to survive cold temps so being outside and breathing in fresh air is helpful, also keeping central heating low and wearing an extra layer instead helps,
Eating very nutrient dense food which nourishes the immune system will also help.
Antibacterial soap and sanitisers will kill nasty bacteria on our hands but it will also kill our good bacteria which helps kill bad bacteria, so using lots of it does more harm than good in the long run.
C-19 is airborne so we are more likely to catch it by breathing it in than by touching it.
This is some of the info my daughter and I have found, I hope this information helps reassure you and helps you feel able to protect yourself. 🤗
I can understand how vulnerable you must be feeling, With this being a new strain of virus, it does feel unpredictable, but having done some research with my daughter, it does seem there is much that can be done to keep ourselves safe and I rather suspect the way the media word things, can have a tendency to imply the worst rather than give us balanced facts 🤗
I live in the States. I do not listen to the media, I get updates from the CDC [Center for Disease Control and Prevention] Here are the current world statistics: Coronavirus Cases:
116,307
Deaths:
4,090
Recovered:
64,633 [not quite 50%]
This is nearing pandemic proportions and I AM WORRIED about it.
I am over 60. I have diabetes, stage 4 kidney disease, end stage liver disease, heart failure and lung disease. THESE are comorbidities. The virus is the catalyst.
We have confirmed cases in my local area and it is very worrisome. Now I limit trips outside of my home, I wear a mask and gloves when I go out, I wash, wash, wash my hands, disinfect my home and use hand sanitizer after every wash. I am nervous about going to my medical appointments or having to have lab work done.
I am shopping to stock up on canned/dry goods tomorrow and I will be fair about my purchases. Hoarding affects everyone else negatively.
So, I am in a heightened state of caution...not quite panicked. I believe this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better and in the fall [later this year] we will get slammed with this virus again.
Having survived bilateral pneumonia and sepsis I have never been able to understand why anyone would call it a blessed release. Lol I can assure you I can think of many better ways to go.
No just lucky...The ambulance crew took me straight to the respiratory unit instead of A&E. They started treatment of iv antibiotics whilst I was sitting waiting for a bed to be found. The next ten days or so was a blur as I cannot remember a lot after that just fragments. My wife said I was not making much sense.
That’s an interesting point Hidden . The danger is that we really don’t exactly know how this virus acts, and that is why scientists from around the world are working all out trying to find all these things out.
In the meantime Government has advised that we only take on board any information about our situation in England, ( other countries will be advised by their officials) from Public Health England, this is being done because there is such a lot of Fake News out there.
As for Antibacterials, that is exactly what they are, used to kill Bacteria, the Covid19 is a Virus, so Antibacterials are useless against Viruses. They are however very necessary in keeping up of general hygiene practices.
Like yourself, I’m in the upper age bracket, and have a few other conditions as well as Fibro. So since we have to rely on the current Government giving out the information, I have decided that their Guidlines, and Public Health England, and a common sense approach is what I’ll rely on. It’s useless in trying to speculate on what other countries are doing or not doing.
As for saying it like “the flu” that is a dangerous myth. Maybe some people can get a milder dose, but they can spread it on to others who are more vulnerable and the outcome is not so good.
Let’s keep our spirits up, and follow the Guidlines, but don’t allow ourselves to be fooled into taking this virus lightly.
Panic buying as you say helps no one. However, this disease is different than flue. It attacks the lungs in those who are not sufficiently immune to it. It means that you could be unable to go and obtain food. So you need a 14 day supply of food should you catch it. You cannot know what will be available in the food shops and what will not be available.
There are more than one strain of this disease. One strain attacks other organs of the body as well.

"... Not only capable of causing pneumonia, COVID-19 may also cause damage to other organs such as the heart, the liver, and the kidneys, as well as to organ systems such as the blood and the immune system."

The fatality figures can be misleading. Certain age groups are not very affected. Certain old age groups are potentially very affected. So the fatality in certain old age groups is potentially higher than 5%.
Several conferences and lectures I planned to go to have been cancelled.
