Hi

Is there anyone in this forum that suffers from addiction??

I am in recovery & I am struggling with the prescribed drugs side of things.

As I have a mental illness (addiction) as well as a physical illness (fibo )

If there is anyone in the same situation as me. I would really appreciate it as I am really struggling.

Thanks

Hi and a warm welcome to our community. Here you will find support, information, friendship and laughter too.

Unfortunately, I've no personal experience of what you are going through

I,m just wondering if you Have tried any therapies like hydrotherapy? Sometimes meds alone are not the answer,I often just take off to local pool And sit in Jacuzzi to ease sore muscles and stiffness

I think Zoonie makes a good point. Both my wife a I struggled to come of tramadol. I have a regular battle coming off morphine when my pain is more manageable. There is a grey area between addiction and dependence. If the meds are helping then in my opinion you are not an addict. I stop or reduce my opiates whenever I can as I want them to work when I need them and as many will tell you they stop working with long term use.

I did get addicted to an antidepressant (Sertraline) some years ago, which I only discovered when I tried to get off it.

I started by lessening my dose by waiting until the withdrawal symptoms kicked in, then taking it. then as my body got comfortable with it I started to break the tablets in half, and then in half again, until I just didn't need them any more. Took a few weeks, but it worked.

I am now on Ibuprofen which I only take when neccessary, also, and for emergency breakthrough pain, I have a small number of CoDydramol.

I don't intend to become dependent on any drug again.

Cheers, Midori

Hello...I have weaned myself off tramadol and gabapentin....neither of which made much difference to my fibro pain. My doctors comment when I told her what I wanted to do was "The awful thing about all this is that we prescribed them!".....

My daughters and OH were very supportive and told me after I had cracked it that I was much more "alive"....I also have co-dydramol which I take when I really need something.

It took me about 3 months in total but well worth it, so hang in there, it will get easier I promise.

I had to see a relief GP when my Dr was away and amongst a whole lot of other awful things he called me an addict. I take Palexia twice daily. When I saw my Rheumatologist he said I am not an addict but I am dependant and there is a difference.

I think I didn’t write the post correctly for people to understand. I am in recovery. I’m a recovering alcoholic & was addicted to prescription drugs as well as alcohol. My body has been clean for the past 5 years & now I have had to have the battle of either taking the prescribed drugs- diazepam pregablin etc. And possibly becoming addicted again. That’s why I posted this post as I thought there might be someone in the same situation as me.

Thank you all for your answers. The conclusion I am getting from all the reply’s is that the drugs are not going to be a long time fix. I think it’s just a situation I’m going to have to work out for myself.

As you know I can relate to this. Always here for help or advice if needed. None of us know all the answers... But if we gather enough knowledge we can make more informed decision. My problem was originally the alcohol, cannabis then diazepam was thrown in. Even if it rains today there is sunshine or its NIGHT.

I wish you the very best of luck, ask for and make sure you get every possible bit of help you can stay strong and stay safe! There's nothing you can't do😊
