Hi Lurchie22 and a warm welcome to our community. Please familiarise yourself with our guidelines, which we're contained in your welcome email when you joined. You can also find general information on fibromyalgia at our website fmauk.org
Everyone fools that different things help them - medication, supplements, pacing, exercise /activity, mindfulness, heat /cold, complementary therapies, distraction etc are just some of the things people do to help themselves.
If you put any of them into the search box at top of page, you can read previous discussions xxxx
Oh dear, welcome to the club nobody wants to join!
Fibro is sneaky, it gets us all differently, which is why it can take years to diagnose, unfortunately.
Its a case of trial and error to find out what works and what doesn't. Gentle exercise is good and stops us seizing up completely, and working with your GP to find the medications which suit you.
You will have up times and down times, it comes with the territory, but I would suggest you have a look at The Spoon Theory, helps you understand pacing. You may have been referred to a Pain Clinic, this can be good also.
Physio can also be good, as long as the physio understands and doesn't make the exercises too difficult, Possibly Hydrotherapy in a very warm pool.
Above all, acceptance helps, no good hankering over a lifestyle which is gone, we have to accept our limitations without getting too depressed, because it can be depressing, especially if you are young, this is where talking Therapies can be helpful, and the Community mental Nurses, can give you tips. Not everyone gets depressed; I'm a bloody minded person and I treat the Fibro as my enemy, stealing from me.
I hope you can get to grips with it soon, it is unfortunate that our Rheumatologists give us the diagnosis with a piece of paper and then Nada, can't help any more. Our GPs in the main are little better.
Cheers, Midori
