Capability for Work Assessment

Hi all, this is my first post. Today I have a capability for work assessment and was wondering if anyone else has had to go for one and what your experience was like? I went for one 4 years ago and was declined because I had a shoulder bag with my appointment letter in it (if I was fit enough to wear a bag with a letter in it, I was fit enough to work). I took a seizure in the office and this was skipped over in my outcome letter, so I'm really anxious about today incase I get rejected again. I hate having to try and prove to complete strangers I have fibro, especially when there's days I look absolutely fine and don't have as much pain. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Emma x

You're a bit late asking for advice, but here goes... Don't overdo anything, If doing something causes you pain, then you have to say I can't do that, 'cos it hurts, by the same token if doing something causes you massive fatigue, refuse to do it , and say why you won't or can't do it. If you tell them how you are on your worst day, rather than on your best day, you may get somewhere. Good luck.

You need a copy of the disability handbook. You need to look for the cause concerning danger to yourself and others. Speak to the local charity which deals with benefits concerning this. It is not in the form you have to fill in.

You are fit enough to work. You have written on this forum. The question that needs addressing is: "Are you capable of meeting the requirements of employment"?

You need legal advice from an adviser who knows benefits law. Case law is constantly changing.

My daughter has had 2 of these in 12 months ! The first was fine but why bother with a second ? According to the transcript they needed " more medical evidence". Beyond a rheumotologists diagnosis, pain clinic attendance, medication etc what further could they require ?

Yesterday she was grilled over her mental health, her reasonable adjustments at work & her ibs wanting a description of her symptoms.

Beware these people are desperate to get their £200 + per appointment & probably a bonus for getting people off disabled benefits.

Iam now going to help her through the complaints procedure. It seems the limited capability for work on universal credit is not subject to the "light touch" for chronic illnesses. This loophole must be closed before they persecute disabled people out of work altogether.

She relies on uc to top up her wage as she cannot increase her shifts. Without it she will have to apply for full esa & have no job. Who benefits from this result ? Only the assessors who still have a contract to persecute the sick in work or out.

Margaret Greenwood is shadow minisster for work & pensions . I am going to include her in my emails to mp's.

Its time we "raised awareness" of the ridiculous medical assessments which are just lining the pockets of private companies at the expense of the tax payer. As well as persecuting the sick & disabled.

I hope your assessment goes well . Just be you on a bad day. Beyond that its in the hands of the gods

Thanks everyone for replying. I think the assessment went okay. I was in for over an hour with the lady, she was nice and made me feel comfortable. We spent a long time discussing my symptoms and treatments (she had received some information from my GP prior to the appointment) I also supplied her with letters from my GP and psychologist. We spent a long time discussing my mental health too and done the physical assessment at the end, by this point I had spent so long sitting on the chair that it was extremely difficult to get up and move about. She said it would take around about 4 weeks before I find out the decision but thank you all again for your replies x
