Hi all

I have only recently joined the group/forum. It is not normally 'my bag' to be honest, as I come from the generation who followed the axium "oh its ok, I'll be fine".

After 50 odd years ... well the 'axiom' has finally shown itself for what it was, a load of old pony.

Is it just me, or are there 'others' out there, who, from time to time, get fed up taking all the pills, potions and whatever, to supposedly fix our ill's?

Hi there, warm welcome wishes to our group :) I have to say after 35 years of fibro and trying all the pills. I no longer get that fed up feeling of pill popping because I no longer take them.

I just can not tolerate the side effects :(

Well sometimes it’s okay to have a good moan etc as people that do not suffer with fibro will not always get it , here we do and having a chat now and then helps and sometimes alittle banter along the way, I’ve stuck with the forum along while, it’s well run and made some friends along the way, 😀

Hello and welcome Camhanaich. None of the pills and potions have had a positive effect for me, so I don't take anything anymore. Most were just causing more problems without solving anything and they don't come cheap do they? If a wonder panacea appears then great, but until then I'm going to keep trying to find practical solutions.

You are right, it is a lot of old pony.

I have evolved past taking the pills, I am fed up with the doctor taking one look at me and starting to say 'You're Depre....', at which time I say 'No I'm not, I'm here for my blood tests/BP checks, or whatever.' He really doesn't get it that I have got past needing the drugs, and am now personally controlling my pain. My BP is within reasonable limits for a woman of almost 72. My IBS is OK with Gaviscon, and a change to Sourdough bread.

I am in charge of my Fibro, although I am soon going to need help with the arthritis which is starting to be a perishing nuisance!

Midori,, have you tried taking some tumeric it really can be quite effective with inflamation,, if it keeps you away from the cox1 and cox2 inhibiting NSAID's so much the better with the gut problems indemic with fibro. Cox2 are the ones that cause problems with the gut lining and the Cox1 meds have proven to be very troublesome ,, which really only leaves pain killers or steroids or topical if it's osteo.

It's easy to make your own tumeric paste.

Just make a thick paste of tumeric with coconut oil over a gentle heat and add about 1/10 the amount of ground black pepper when you take it off the heat. Half a teaspoon a day is about right more is not necessaraly better.

Best not to make anymore than you will use in a few weeks and store it in the fridge as the coconut oil goes rancid,

Thank you Ray, that will be useful. I haven't tried Turmeric yet; keep forgetting to buy the stuff!

I just get mine in an online auction site,, I use an Organic Turmeric Powder 500g It's 7.90 which is enouth to do for about a year or so. Just store cool and dry,,, the piperine in the black pepper helps with the uptake as dose the MCT in the coconut oil. It's easy to put together and has a slightly flat musky spicy taste but not unpleasent,, very reasonable and at least is not more effective than the ioslate cucumerin as it is whole herb you also do not have any solvent residues.

It is also disgusting what some companies ask for their lable and a fancy bottle.
