Does anyone feel like their legs don’t belong to them? I feel sometimes like I am walking on cotton wool. It is scary! I put everything down to fibromyalgia but worried it may be something else.

Walking on air
Hi there,
Yes I get this sometimes in the morning walking to work and it’s scary. That’s exactly how I describe it too ! I also have fibromyalgia. It seems to go once I get to work and I feel safe again. It gives me a bit of a panic and feel like I’m going to faint but luckily work is only 10 mins from my house.
Hi0- it just might be your legs need some "pumping iron" do some stretching of the big muscles, if you can swim find a warm 32 degree pool and excercise gently, you,ll be amazed how muscles feel different in water. Sitting around for long period does deplete muscle power so maybe a brisk walk at your breaks.
Yeah ... Or really heavy like concrete ... ,!
This could be pressure on the nerve roots in the lower spine. The leg muscles attach to the spine. If the muscles are too tight pressure is applied to the nerve roots which result in the legs feeling like they don't belong to them.
Worth seeing a doctor to check that there is no hard areas in the back present to cause the problem.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I’m going to see Doctor tomorrow
Yes I often feel like that my legs collapse under me at least once a day I was at hospital yesterday and the specialist said it it most likely caused by the build up.of fluid they have found in my lower spine
I do get strange sensations in my legs but not lightness, if fact it's more the opposite, It feels like I am wading through knee deep mud especially when climbing stairs
Hi Lodgemanager!! Yes your not alone I feel exactly the same my legs dont feel they belong to me, but feels more like wading through deep water and sometimes I trip over everything and my balance is not that good either!! I think it is part of fibromyalgia
