It should be ruled out as part of the diagnostic process or if at any time you have symptoms that suggest it may now also be a problem.

My GP referred me with this suggested diagnosis, which the registrar then rubbished on the grounds of my age (50s), as he suggested it was unlikely as its more an illness of an older age group

Thanks for all your replies. I should have said that my initial sypmtons were absolutely classical for polymyalgia, and as I said the blood test doesn't always prove positive -not that I want it to !.There are other conditions that are also similar which to me suggests there must be similar causes. Although fibro is not life threatening it is a b--- nuisance to say the least.

My mum had had all sorts of problems for quite a few years and I thought it ironic that at 86 and her last time in hospital it was suggested she had fibro. My fibro started just after I got married again and mum put all my problems down to my new wife !!!!!!!!!

Some doctors will try a course of steroids if a patient has symptoms of an inflammatory condition, but is sero-negative. Steroids working would suggest that it is an inflammatory problem.
