Just got diagnosed with fibromyalgia today

Hi there

I just got diagnosed with fibromyalgia today although my consultant said he couldn’t do a test for it I ticked all the boxes for fibro like extreme tiredness and pains in all different areas of my body and lots of other symptoms . I had kept going backwards and forwards to my G.P for over a year and it was the rheumatologist who diagnosed me. At least I have an idea what is wrong. Had anyone any key advice for me?

Thank you Dizzytwo. I will look into locking my messages. Very sore after the tender spot test.

The best advice that I can give you is to learn to listen to your body.

When it tells you to rest....you rest.

When it says you won't be able to do something...you won't be able to do it!

(However much you try!).

Learn your limits.

You have a whole new lifestyle to live now.

Good luck and take care.

Thank you Apylou I think I might have to make changes to my working day now. Thanks for your advice.

Can I ask you what pain relief you are trying or have tried? Yes to diagnose fibro can be a tick box procedure as no blood tests will show this (except for low iron/ferrtin levels)

Happy to help when i can-- Nurse Gladys Emanuel (still open all hours)

Hi NurseGadys I’m not on any pain relief except over the counter medicine. Before I got diagnosed I on Tuesday I was in hospital with chest and upper back and shoulder pain and the only thing that helped was the oromoroh they gave me I am trying to get appointment now with my go to get something so I can carry on as much as I can with my normal work life routine.

I have only presented twice in 17.5 years to A&E in terrible uncontrolable pain, I wasnt given oromorph but infused with a muscle relaxer and paracetamol a strength only hospitals and paramedics can give, since then I have been ok with tramadol and paracetamol in between (I do have other pain to control as well as fibro)
