Great news for fibromyalgia sufferers
Hi there,
sad to say I won’t get excited by this, as it would take many many years if at all, to get to the stage of the leaves of this plant becoming a remedy for Fibro.
Take care.
GP. 😊😊
I don’t think so. I live in Brazil and this fruit is traditional in the Amazon region and the Cerrado region. We consume large amounts of the fruit (utterly delicious) and there are many plantations. As it is considered a herbal medication, no extensive studies are required for tests. I bet many local researchers are already studying side effects and interactions. I will investigate and report back.
Sounds like it's worth a try, as long as it's safe there's no harm in it and it must be safe if locals have been having it for ages with no problems. It's good to hear something positive. Thanks for sharing that and please do keep us updated x
Hi rach1402,
It’s not so simple. What we actually eat are the fruits and the experiments use leaves extracts, which can be toxic at high amounts. Every drug has some toxicity, it’s inherent to the process of altering biological systems that you will have some damage if you don’t follow strict dosage.
That said, I still think this is very promising because this plant produces a number of alkaloids that could have direct effect on central pain mechanisms.
its phase 1 trials so quite along way off. Also not sure about the fibromyalgia inducement method but not sure if this is the standard method. Intermittent cold stress (ICS)-induced fibromyalgia is not something I have any knowledge of but seems to be the foundation of the trial.
I agree but I think it’s a start and I have the conviction that this will work because there’s local traditional use in the Amazon to backup those results. Unfortunately this knowledge is not scientific and therefore not recognised (yet).
A recent review sciencedirect.com/science/a...
Even a DNA barcode has been developed to test soursop (Annona muricata) tea in Thailand, where it has become popular for its anti-cancer properties. nature.com/articles/s41598-...
I understand that nobody wants false hopes, hence the need for scientific rigour, but let's be honest and face the reality, none of the current drugs used to 'treat' fibromyalgia were developed and tested for this condition, and from the strict scientific point of view, they are merely symptomatic treatments, so any other drug that can treat the symptoms with possibly less side effects is welcomed.
It's true what you say about current treatments and it's a good thing people are considering other possibilities. What better place to start than with something that has been used for a long time with good safety record? I don't know why people think the success rate of a medicine or supplement shouldn't be measured by how well the person taking it feels it works. Surely that's the best measure of success for treating non life threatening conditions that impair quality of life?
How did they know the mice had fibromyalgia.
They have used a model called Intermittent Cold Stress
Omg I have just looked up this as soursop tea it’s scary what this does as long term use to our symptoms so I won’t be trying. Short term for coughs etc is good but not for mr
Hi there,
It’s a powerful drug, that’s why it’s being studied for its anti-cancer properties. The rational use is advisable as it happens to be with any medication.
