Medication?

Hi all, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in July 2018 but as of yet have not been given any medication for it. Can anybody tell me what you’re on and if it helps? Does it make you gain weight? Thanks in advance.

Were you diagnosed by a Rheumatologist ? They usually write to your GP and hand treatment over to them. I think unless you go to the GP and say I need medication to help pain, or sleeplessness, or depression they don't do anything proactively.

I don't react well to prescribed meds ( had bad reactions to amatryptiline, blood pressure meds, HRT, statin meds) so didn't go back to the GP. I treat myself with painkillers as and when needed and several supplements., just do the best I can ---downside is prescription meds could work and work better but I'm too wary to risk it. Last reaction to high b.p med was scary.

You could try having an appointment with your GP and discuss medication available--- that way you'll be able to gauge his/her knowledge of fibro and how well they'll monitor you.

You could also get a copy of your most recent blood tests and see if any are low. GPs will just say 'normal' if in range but being low in the range might cause symptoms that can be improved with supplementing.

Yes I was diagnosed by a Rheumatologist. I will go to my GP. I too am wary of prescribed drugs as am already on anti depressants and mood stabilisers and I also suffer with ME/CFS. Thankyou for your advice 06hollyberry.

Lolabunny1 ,what mg of duloxetine do you take please? My rheumatologist prescribed me 20 mg at bedtime but this has not helped with sleep and pain .

Hi I'm on the same but I was on 40mg but I had a racing heart on that dose. So it was dropped to 20mg and I'm fine now. It doesn't make me sleepy.

I am on Pregablin (Lyrica) for neuropathic pain and cocodamal for generalised pain. I also have osteoarthritis and until a recent bowel bleed was on Ibuprophen which for the time being I have had to stop. I unfortunately have had an increase in stiffness and muscle pain since so I think it must have been benefitting my fibro pain as well. if you are low in vitamins like D that can also sometimes have an effect on pain and fatigue. As others have said GP's seem to prescribe according to what symptoms are most prevalent in your fibro condition so it might differ from others. I was tried on various antidepressants for the pain and also insomnia but unfortunately they just don't seem to suit me but they have suited others.x
