Hi all. I’m new to the group.
I am currently on amitriptyline and have been for many years. I am looking at something better maybe to help with the depression side of this illness. Any advice please ? x

I think most GPs/DRs prescribed Amitriptyline as first line to help reduce symptoms and there has been research I believe that upping the dose doesn't really help anymore than the starting dose - I think I remember reading this anyway. If I can find the link I will post it here later. Fibromyalgia symptoms seems to be best controlled by using a variety of things including medication, relaxation, gentle exercise, complementary therapies etc.
You may find this this post helpful , it's the EULAR Recommendations for Fibromyalgia, link below;

Amitriptyline is really an anti depressant but is known for pain relief. I assume you wre given it for fibro? you need to speak to gp to wean off if its not helping you and maybe discuss an alternative pain relief for fibro along with something else if you feel depressed.
Hello, I’m 3 years diagnosed and I’ve not had much success with treatments so far, I too have recently been prescribed amitriptyline but it’s only really helping with my sleep.
I did some more research and came across a medication called Duloxetine, this is an anti depressant and pain medication. It’s not widely heard of, but my GP is more than happy for me to try it and I will start taking it once I’ve weaned off other medication in the next few weeks.
I’ve also heard that Epsom salts are great for relieving pain.
I am really struggling at the moment with my leg pain and I struggle to walk and stand up. So I am hoping the medication and salts in a bath help.
Hope this may help you too?!
Hi there and welcome, I think for many it is trials and errors till we get something that helps, I was on citolpram for years and I think it did help , but this year after a bout of flu and getting really anxious and down I was put on sertraline it made me worse , my anxiety went throw the roof and I was gradually weaned off and put on duloxtene 60mg once a day , I was told it would help with my Fibro and anxiety ,I have to say for me after a few weeks I certainly did feel so much better with everything. Perhaps book in as soon as you can to speak to your doc for some advice, glad to have another member on board I find the forum a good place to come x
Hi again , well I think more that I have not really had any anxiety , and not been down quite so much since I’ve been on it , was about 7mths ago I started. Think it helps alittle with pain as it’s a relaxant I think, I suppose I was looking to get myself in a better place. Wishing you well keep us posted on your progress xx
