I have been taking 10mg of Nortriptyline for the past 4 months with great effect. I have been sleeping well and therefore my daily fatigue and pain struggles have been manageable until recently.
Over the past week, I have been unable to get to sleep, when I do eventually fall asleep I constantly wake up in pain and when I then get out of bed in he early hours of the morning as I can’t lie there anymore as I have the most awful headache. A lot of the pain I have is in my neck and shoulders.
I was wondering if anyone has taken this for their Fibro and had the same problems and if increased to 15mg did it help?
I will be making an appointment with my GP Monday. My Rhuematologist did say when first diagnosed it may need to be increased. I just don’t want to have to keep increasing every few months!
Are you on ANY pain relief at all hun? the nori I believe are to make you sleep but like you they can become less effective, in the beginning of fibro I had muscle injection of a sterois called Kenalog, its marvelous and it gives you a lease of life pus pain relief, maybe ask your gp if that road is a possibility, I find normal herbal sleepers help.

I will ask the GP about those injections. My biggest problem is sleep and the knock on effect it has on me. Dreadful fatigue and pain. However, when I started on the Nortriptyline it’s been amazing. Just recently it’s not been as effective that’s why I’m thinking I need to increase the dose.
Thank you for the reply and I’ll look into the injections as my neck and shoulders sometime are unbearable.
Best wishes,
Jo

Nori are supposed to knock you out and leave u groggy next day so if that isn't happening then tell gp but don't be tempted by an increase in doseage. I found intra.muscular injection of kenalog covers whole body as it goes into blood stream Nd circulates

I do usually feel a big groggy but not for long and normally I sleep well but recently not so good. Thank you for your replies x
I take nortriptyline, I started on 10mg and found they really helped, but like you realised I probably needed to up the dose, as the pain specialist said I would probably need to, so I am now on 25mg a night. Annoyingly they come in 10 and 25mg tablets, I'm thinking of going down to 20 mg as I think 25mg is a bit too high. I always take them 12 hours before I need to get up for work otherwise I'm too groggy.
Thank you for your reply. I am finding them brilliant but did wonder what dose others were on. I’m going to the GP in the morning. I took 15mg last night and slept much better. I do find that I can’t take them too late.
Hi i am on nortriptyline i started with 10mg now i am on 50 2x 25 you can go to 75mg but obviously ask doctor i am lucky i dont get groggy in the morning hope this helps
There’s the possibility of your body getting used to any medication and then the benefits wear away. I take 70mg (highest dose). When I took amitriptyline my body gradually got used to it and I had to keep increasing it. Definitely have a chat with your gp
That’s great to know you can go as high as that, I was worried about increasing and as the GP has said I’m currently on such a low dose. Thank for the reply.
Thats good you can get nortriptyline from your GP I use to have it prescribed a few years ago and found I could tolerate it better than amitriptyline, but now they will not prescribe it not sure why?! so now I am going to try amitriptyline again, but I do know that it interacts with my thyroid meds!!
