I take 200mg of Tramadol ER per day...just switched to the ER form from 4 -50mg tablets per day. Can you please tell me what dose you are on? I am limited to that moderate dose due to another drug I am on for anxiety...Effexor....both affect the seratonin in my body. I'm thinking I will probably ask my doctor for a higher dose of Tramadol since the dose I'm on are both pretty low and I think it would take a lot more of each drug to cause serotonin syndrome.
For those of us who are on Tramadol... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
For those of us who are on Tramadol...
200mg is a good sized dose with 400mg being the max allowable dose. Best to speak to Dr about it and see if a raise in disagree is worthwhile and perhaps some acute dosage that you can react to increased pain. I have 1-2 4 times a day so I can react to my pain levels but try and keep to as low a dose as possible.
Hi desquinn.....you mention that you are on 1-2 but what is the dose of the 1 or 2 pills?
Also I believe that I have become somewhat tolerant to that dose after taking it for 10 years now.
50mg tablets. you can also supplement with paracetamol as well. It can enhance performance of some other meds.
Yes novdoubt ,I know I did when I was on half the dose
400mg is the max safe dose. I don't take the ER tramadol, just the normal stuff, but I take up to 400mg a day. I'm also on Effexor - the maximum dose: 375mg/day. I've only ever had serotonin issues when I doubled by Venlafaxine by mistake.
Can you tell me what your fibro was like before these two meds and since you've been taking them??? xxoo
Personally being on Effexor And Tramadol Has helped me I think it’s the tramadol which contributes to the pain relief more being an opioid. So it makes sense. I take Effexor for other reasons I associated with FIBRO
Robaxin for spasms I get help more than anything I personally feel
I am on 300mg per day tramadol ER I think it’s a great drug - Effexor known at venlafaxine is good for anxiety and depression I am on this too 150mg a day. But my doctor didn’t say I had to moderate tramadol due to being on Effexor
I am only on 200mg per day of Tramadol and 50mg of effexor.....so relatively lower then your dose of each, I had a recent episode after just switching to the 200mg ER of tramadol dose where I forgot to take it at 5:30pm....I had been used to taking 50mg every six hours consistantly....but this was after the switch, so I was missing 2 of my previous doses....and I woke up at 2:30am in excruciating pain - worse than it has ever been- I immediately took my 200mg dose and 3 Advil and 1 Percocet and it took 1 1/2 hrs for that pain to go back to normal. I was in harry'carry mode for that 1 1/2 hrs! I am usually in 6-7 pain normally even while on medications. I think the tramadol just takes the edge off the pain and takes it down 1-2 notches, which is tolerable.
I find tramadol or anything I have ever taken dissolves the FIBRO pain it’s always there so agree tramadol takes the pain down a few notches and that can be a huge relief. I am on 150mg of Effexor so quite a bigger dose than you and I am on different amounts of tramadol depending how bad my pain is
I think tramadol only helps with paracetamol, but eh what pain is you wake up?I had pain for a long time not realising it was spasms it was tightness in my muscles and feeling my leg was dying off and not able to even sit up or rollover out my bed to get pain relief so it happened more often so I made sure I kept my mobile next to me so I could ring my son or daughter upstairs to get my meds and give me a rub,I went to docs I got a locum and as soon as I said tightness or almost like mini contractions she said spasms it means same thing but no one out of seven drs understood what I had meant before!,thank lord for the locum&robaxin.hope this has helped?,let us know how you get on please?
I have never suffered from serotonin syndrome and I have been on and am on many medications it’s very rare so i heard
What's Serotonin Syndrome ? 🤗
Very bad condition. Google it. Can be lethal.
Overdose (can be totally accidental) of medications that contain serotonin and it can be too much for your body. For what I know it’s rare but can be pretty nasty
OMG 😮 How do we know what medications can cause this? Do I need to worry?
if you take your prescribed dose of the medications you have been given, your doctor will already know if certain medications mixed can cause serotonin syndrome and what dose is safe when combined with others. Just follow your doctors advice and if you notice yourself feeling any unusually side effects visit your doctor. Don’t worry too much
Phew as someone said lethal made me wonder! I am not on Tramadol but take Gabapentin and Cocodamol but thinking about trying it as the pain is bad the majority of the time. 👎
It’s ok, like some illnesses it can be lethal if not treated but it is rare and shouldn’t be an issue if you follow your prescribed dose. Do you find cocodamol helps? I tried it then moved onto codeine but it knackered my stomach lining and codeine especially made me so nauseous!
Nah Cocodamol doesn't do anything really apart from make it harder downstairs if you know what I mean. I am going to ask GP about a Pain Clinic app Pen X💜🤗
Exactly like Pinkie-jazzie states. You can always google "seratonin syndrome" and get an idea of what drug combinations can cause it. I have always heard i is pretty rare.
Will do .... they are so many conditions aren't there?! Not going to worry about it as think I'm not taking any meds that have this in Pen X💜🤗
Try not to worry and always consult your GP to discuss your current meds. Here's a link to information on Serotonin Syndrome patient.info/doctor/seroton...
Hope this helps

I stopped taking tramadol along with several other drugs I was taking for fibromaylia as I found the more I took or stronger tablets it wasn't making the symptoms any better In fact it seem to make the pain worse.
I now take paracetamol or ibrophren when required and have learnt to get my mind in a better frame, if I need to express my feelings I do, talk things over not stress about it anymore and although not pain free I am certainly better than when taking the drugs
Hi World. I am prescribed the same dose as you (but not ER) and I am not on SNRI's (but I'm on SSRI's). I discussed with my GP at length, best dose/type/effectiveness etc and now I only take mine when nothing else works for me (PRN), and I personally think it works better than taking it all the time. I would definitely have a chat to your doctor, my point is, if you are feeling it is ineffective as stupid as it sounds, I'm just putting it out there that it could be a serious option to reduce rather than increase, so you get the kick when you need it.
I take 400mg a day slow release 200 in morning and 200 at night time I also take a lot of other tablets as well
How much relief do you think you are getting from the Tramadol?
It’s hard to say I have been on them a long time the effects are not as good as they were I also take paracetamol with them I have asked the docto on numerous occasions to change my painkillers but he is saying no at the moment I told him i am in so much pain but it makes no difference
Me personally taken along side my other medication it really helps 80% of the time
Sounds like this might be something to mention to GP as I never seem to be comfortable with what I am on. I will make an appointment and ask about this med 🤗
It has been proved that opoids like tramadol do not help fibromyalgia. In fact they make it worse because they interfere with the function of the adrenal glands which produce gill cells which we need as they play a part in our immune system. The pain clinic course on Fibromyalgia I did at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth is where I learned this information. All on the course came of tramdol and other opoids. We all felt better for doing so. I have recently started taking Vitamin B complex and Turmeric tablets from Holland and Barratt. I have had a remarkable change with my Fibromyalgia. Turmeric is an anti inflammatory and my pain is significantly improved. I'm out of bed and doing a lot more. Hope this information will help others.
I have tried tumeric and it doesn't do anything for my pain.
The only non medicinal product I have any faith in is CBD oil but even so i would never use it on its own only alongside my usual medications
Whats CBD Oil Pinkie? Pen X💜🤗
It’s a derivative of cannabis it can come in a droplet format in Holland and Barrett and some have said they find it helps with their pain
Oh it's a legal mixture type stuff...... do you take this? Does it help? Pen X💜🤗
It is legal if you buy it from a reputable shop yes, it is like 0.05% or something. I have anxiety aswell so I take it sometimes for that it helps and anxiety leads to pain sometimes and my pain doesn’t flare as bad when I try the drops
Something else for me to look into thanks to this site !😍
It doesn’t suit everybody and I shrugged it off to begin with but was willing to give it a go
As Hidden says it doesn;t suit everyone and I think another Admin Hazel mentioned if should be taken either 2 hours after or 2 hour prior to prescription meds.
Hope this helps
Emma
I haven’t heard not to take it either 2 hours before or 2 hours after prescript meds to be totally honest perhaps it depends what you take?
I'll tag Hazel as she I believe has the information on this and maybe even a link which may help you. Hazel_Angelstar Am I right in saying that it needs to be spaced away from meds?
Cool I have taken the CBD oil at the same time most of my meds I seem to be ok
I have never heard this. And I don't space it. But I take MJ that is in equal amounts of THC and CBD.....or much higher in CBD. I am in the US and MJ is legal in my state. I've heard that hemp oil CBD is not the same thing and does nothing.
Yeah the hemp oil is like greasy pond sh**e and you are right does nothing! we can get CBD oil with x % of cannabis in it but it’s totally legal because of the amount contained in it
Well as I say let's wait for Hazel the FMAUK Administrator as she has the information and it might just be an advisory so it doesn't affect the other medications maybe?! Let's see what she says and if she has a link for more info on this
👍👍👍
Personally I have found opioids do a good job for me so tramadol being one of them really help
There are not very many studies done which state that opoids don't work for fibro and the medical community generally does not take into consideration the anecdotal evidence of patients when making their judgements. I find that Oxydocdone and Hydrocodone do just take the edge off FiBro and knock the pain down a little. But I have been limited here in the US to a very low dose of either of those meds....say 1 tablet a day of either for breakthrough pain....by the doctors because of the huge opoid epidemic here in this country. I feel that a higher dose might help me more.
I take 2 50mg twice a day or rare occasions I will take it 2 50mg 3 x day.
Hi im on 100mg 4xday with gababpentin and still in pain .been told to wait and c if pain clinic can give me somethin stronger x
Hi Patches12. I'm new here. I'm on Gabapentin too with no much relief never out of pain, kinda get used to a level always there but worsens with activity and get the ton of bricks called fatigue as a side order. I haven't been to a pain clinic was that a NHS referral from GP? Pen X💜🤗
Gabapentin only made me extremely drunk feeling when I tried to increase the dose from 300 mg per day to a higher dose. So my dr. took me off of it.
Ok thanks
Two four times aday
Wow...that seems like a lot....What dose is each pill?
Most likely 50mg per tablet. Here's some information about Tramadol and doses that may be of interest.

Might be worth asking pharmacist if you have any specific questions or concerns. Hope this helps Emma
It is a lot,a lot of pain I have different illnesses, 50g each pill.for years I would give my pills back until I became more I'll.I'm okay with tramadol. Why where you asking? no thanks on link,I look up all my meds when I'm giving them
2 x 50mg 3 or 4 times daily x
Take 50 mg a day at 8 in the morning. I have been taking it for 5 years for 3 me and plant operations on the same leg. The first two failed. I am considering going cold turkey off of Tramadol as I almost cannot function now I am sleepy all the time and I have skin problems. What was scary to me is that I read a couple of new studies this morning that said that long term use of Tramadol can cause permanent brain damage. You can look up the studies yourself if you Google studies long-term effects of Tramadol.
