Fibromyalgia or CFS !!

Was at Pain consultant yesterday. I have been having debilitating bouts of fatigue but also continual muscle / knot pain. I asked if I did have fibro and she said that she thinks it's CFS. I know that the two overlap but she said that the pain management won't put me on it if I have CFS. I will be referred somewhere else! Has anyone else encountered a similar situation? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Hi..I was diagnosed with Fibro 25 years ago by a rheumatologist after over a year of tests (after a car accident)..it wasn't until this year a rheumatologist told me I now have cfs..I never experienced fatigue like this year. Yes Fibro and cfs do overlap but as long as all tests have been done your rheumatologist should be able differentiate the 2. There are so many illnesses that mimic FM and M.E. these should be ruled out first. Hoping you get some clear answers soon and pain relief...good luck

Thanks for your detailed reply. I have not been diagnosed by a rheumatologist. Only my HP

Saying it's probably fibro . Do you think I need to see a rheumatologist? Maybe whoever I see at pain management will steer me in right direction. I can sympathise with your fatigue. It's pants! I do hope you manage to pace a bit and get a little relief. X

I can see where the rheumi is coming from as they probably see you need help with main but as CFS is more fatigue orientated and there seems to be such a queue in some places for a place on a Pain Management course they would give priority to those where pain is the primary symptom. Doesn't really help you though does it. They are very overlapping with their symptoms so I bet is is really difficult to tell in some cases.x

Thanks for your advice . I think your correct in saying that there's just so many of us needing help for our pain and fatigue that it's difficult for services to cope.
