Hi i am new to this got diagnosed on Monday for fibromyalgia after being missed diagnosed for tempol arteritis for the 4 months which resulted in me having to take 60mg of steroids a day which I now got to start weaning myself . I went to the dr yesterday for pain relief to help me get through my 12 hour shifts as a carer but he didn't want to know just signed me up to a exercise program at the gym which I know will kill me and told me to take paracetamol any advice will be so appreciated xxx

Doctors tend to just push fybromaliga to the side the same happened with me my doctor just pushed me to one side and said to take paracetamol! However he did say he would refer me to a rheumatologist which was a little more helpful! I'm on amitrityline however this would not be of any use to you as you stated your a carer who works 12 hour shifts, I've recently changed doctors surgery due to the lack of empathy shown! Maybe use another doctor or asked to be referred to a specialist who has a broader understanding of how much pain we actually go through on a daily basis 😊

The rheumatologist I seen on Monday was just as bad he pressed my shoulders and I went down in pain was so close to punching him lol he said you got fibromyalgia you need to exercise and lose weight that's all I got no information on it or anything

The same happened with me in terms of pain! However I had 15 leaflets about pain management, exercise etc! I know you can have injection I think it's lidocaine or something along the lines. My neighbour is on them there are a lot of people that are helpful on this site! I can't. Believe how people are they have no sympathy or understand daily struggles such as getting dressed! My doctor googled everything! Not to say they aren't doctors that don't care because you there are some that are great at what they do I hope you find a doctor that will give you the time of day! Good luck hope you find something to relieve your pain 😊X

I had a lidocain infusion last Aug an iv been so much worse since! That's not to say it doesn't work for some people, hope your all doing OK today :0)

Now I know why I've given up on drs--we must see the same ones πŸ˜„,Yes, I'd exercise if I wasn't so kn****** but the gym I joined refused to let me in any more as I was gasping for breath after a few minutes, and groaning in pain. They were scared I'd drop dead on one of their machines, and it didn't look good to the other customers

I tried the diet the dr described---- made me feel so ill, far, far worse. I now eat what my body wants ---- fruit, nut milks, cheese, vegetables, pulses ( lifelong veggie) No added sugar, salt, no processed food, gluten free bread ( occasionally as its so expensive!) I'm a bit overweight ( 5 ft 4, 11 stones) but not gaining, has been same now for a year.

Find the painkillers that are right for you. Speak to a pharmacist ( more helpful and less judgemental, I've found) Try pain patches and gels. I can recommend Salonpas patches and Perskindol gel.

Get copies of your blood test results and look for any that are bumping along the bottom of the range. Since taking Vitamin D and treating my thyroid goitre with kelp I'm feeling slightly better.
