Hello Nicola
Have a look on line, its also called cymbalta. There are some side effects they should have told you about, but I have some on line friends in the USA who take it and are fine. It seems everything we take for this has risks, you just need to watch out for them and talk to your doctor if you notice anything you are not sure about or any changes that concern you.
I cannot take it.
Soft hugs.
Ooops, sorry was in a hurry, message was meant for PickledCookie. Soft hugs to you too though Nicola
Hi nicola this was the first drug i was given. Not good for me within 2 hrs og tsking was very ill. To the point of needing to go to hosp as i collapsed! At work. So please b careful. It doesnt suit everyone x
i take deluxtine and has helped me. Was gently weaned off amytripline and put on a gentle dose which was gradually built up and i was fine as far as i remember. x
I have just started being given this drug last week as a combination for depression and fibromyalgia but my General Doctor is also keeping me on Pregablin at least until i see my specialist in April and see what he has to say.. i am on 30mg at the moment and in two weeks i am going on 60mg but i think that the dosage is a depression dosage. I am already sleeping better which i wasnt doing because of the fibromyalgia i was having alot of broken sleep. So even after less than a week i am starting to feel better.. dont know about the pain yet.. it tends to take about 6 weeks with meds.. i have learnt that from experience.. over time i have taken amitriptyline, gabapentin and now the pregablin and Duloxetine. Keeping my fingers crossed it helps.. Depression is common with a long term condition.
Hi all,
my gp is good, he advises me to alter some of my drugs as and when to help e, like even though the baclofen is 3 times a day, i only take it at night as this is when i need it most! the same with the tramadol, but i can also add in naproxen to ease symptoms if getting worse during the day.
and as lynn says, depression is not part of fibro, as my gp and pain consultant said depression can come about due to the ongoing symptoms we have to deal with! if you get battered enough times so to speak it will bring you down.
I'm on 30mg it will be going to 60mg I'm still suffering pain these things take time and should be done slowly I am told. I was taking pregabalin which put me lots of wieght on but they did stop the pain and I slept better as i was also taking imipramine but couldn't carry on because of the wieght gain.
Hi I take 60mg of Cymbalta a day not for the depression side of it but because it is also a pain killer as well I have been taking it since christmas and there is an improvement in the level of pain I have as wellas helping with sleeping problems there are some nasty side effects with them but we are all different touch wood I have not wxperienced any side effects.
My first doctor didnt even know what fibromyalgia was and wasnt willing to learn.. when i came to her with fibro related problems or symptoms she would tell me to speak to my consultant next time i see him and i only see him every five months.. if my pain was increasing well i would often spend a number of months in agony! Luckily i found another doctor at the same practice who understands fibromyalgia recently. I have been getting more and more depressed and he asked me what i wanted to do and told me to come back and see him in a week to discuss it further to see if i wanted antidepressants and if so which ones or counselling.. we mentioned Duloxetine as we knew it worked with both fibro and depression and he double checked i could take it with my current meds and he prescribed it for me. As you said its all about finding a doctor that understands and listens..
Thank you all so much for your comments i have all helped so so much. I have started taking 30mg and so far no side affects apart from the usual drowsiness on the 1st few days so fingers crossed for me
I was prescribed this as I didn't like the dopey effects of amytyrptaline. Duloxetine was prescribed for its effects re pain relief and am sure it is helping in some way.
"Cymbalta is indicated for the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia. Cymbalta is indicated for the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain due to chronic osteoarthritis pain and chronic low back pain."

I was on Cymbalta for 6 months, I thought after the initial awful period while I got used to it that it was a miracle.
Then it wasnt working like it had and I tried to come off to tey another drug! my God that was dangerous with no help from my GP! if you come off be very careful I had what I now know to be brain zaps. Its like having electric shocks through your brain. Agonising and painful and it blinded me which is really not good for someone who is a chauffeur and on one occasion it happened to me I had luckily just arrived at the church with the bride pulled the hand brake on zap and I went blind for about 30 seconds.
I thought I was having a brain hemorrhage or something.
I phoned the GP as soon as I got home and he said oh yes its just a side effect of the tablet! What is so upsetting is he knew my occupation! I would never have taken them had I known what they can do, I am responsible for other peoples lives.
I also gained 2 and a half stone in weight that I cant shift. ;(
