Different day - different diagnosis sort of

So went for an ultrasound of my hands and feet today with the consultant at my original hospital. Never seen him before only the specialist doctor. He seemed very switched on. He said no evidence of inflammation so I said I don't have RA then. He said oh yes you do. The bloods dont lie. He said what we know is that you can have inflammation that goes and leaves stiffness and pain. You can have positive anti bodies and terrible pain and no inflammation ever it's just that your prognosis for disability is much better. He said all we know 100% is we do not understand this disease 100% he said there is fluid in my joints causing pain but they don't know why and it's unlikely they would be able to find out. He thinks RA possibly Fibromyalgia with hypermobility contributing. What he is certain of is that it isn't in my head. He says fibromyalgia under researched most likely neurological and linked to RA type conditions bad press has come from GPs and not so thorough doctors labelling other patients as fibro to get them out of the surgery when they don't know what's wrong but suspect psychological illness because they think the patient will take it better. He says a proper fibro diagnosis by a rheumatologist should happen as a matter of course and it not be left to GPs. So I'm not discharged I will be monitored. My GP will work with me to help with pain relief and if any of my joints flare then I will be scanned again. They will also put me back on the waiting list for my knees to be scanned but he thinks like Bristol this is a mechanical problem. The original doctor I saw who was also there said she hasn't taken on board when she saw me what I was saying about my knees and has done a referral to the physio

Hi Helzbells This sounds a lot more like you are getting the support you need. You must have been in so much agony of late. It looks as though you will get the pain relief you need and the physio and everything you deserve .

At least now you are getting a diagnosis and can see the contributing factors which will make managing your pain easier.

Good luck my friend hope you have a lovely weekend

Wow, that sounds like good news. Your consultant sounds like gold dust, I'd stick to him like glue if I was you.

Hope you get some benefit from all this.

Gentle hugs, Margaret.xxx

Brilliant news that you are getting somewhere now. Wish we weren't mucked around like it. It must cost more to keep discharging people and not help them feel better. best of luck. hugs Joolz.x
