Finally getting treatment for fibro!

I have a new lovely gp she's a gem. My question to you guys is....does anyone know any good rheumatologists in the Glasgow area that treat people with fibro? I've battled pain with virtually no painkillers for nearly 7 years now! It's been a nightmare.my old gp made me feel like a hypochondriac and wouldn't give me anything except paracetamol grudgingly. She told me I had to develop a natural tolerance to pain...

  • What a crazy thing to say....to develop a natural tolerance to pain!!! Bet she hasn't got chronic pain and all that goes with Fibro....sorry cannot help re. rheumatologists in Glasgow but I imagine you will find someone here who can help.....BUT I am pleased you have found a good GP now..x

  • Hi Silmarillion so sorry not in Glasgow I'm sorry to here your in such pain has your new doctor referred you to them now.

I do hope you manage to get one sorted very quickly so you can get some relief sending hugs.

    Good luck my friend

  • Well that sucks, doesn't it? How rude, and how wrong.. Sorry - I'm in the US, but that just made me cringe...

  • You must have had a gp from the dark ages, hopefully due for retirement very soon!!! As for looking for a good rheumatologist if you log on to the hospital web sight where you are booked it usually tells you about their doctors and specialist and how qualified they are and it what specialities. It will be a process of elimination of meds that will help you so be prepared just incase.

  • Sorry the nearest one i have seen is in Hexham.

So pleased you have a good gp. Hugs xx

  • Thank you lovely people! My new gp is lovely. Her predecessor was awful. I went to see her every two weeks for the first year.....and at least once a month for the next couple of years. When she was feeling benevolent she'd give me a months worth of co-codamol. I had asked her for a rheumatology referral so many times and offered to pay for it myself.....she still wouldn't do it.

I nearly cried when my new gp offered to refer me to a neurologist and a rheumatologist.....

So hugs straight back to everyone
