Not sure about that.

As far as I'm aware there is no proof yet that it is actually hereditary. But it does seem to be that there is a tendency for it to run in families.

Likewise no one knows for sure why it tends to be predominantly women that suffer. My guess is that it is something to do with hormones which play a large part in the signals and messages too and from the brain. If fibromyalgia is partly to do with hormonal imbalance then it's perhaps not surprising that women tend to suffer more than men.

Science is advancing and it may be that it does prove to be hereditary but I don't think that is yet known.

Gentle hugs, Margaret. xxx 💜🤗💜🤗💜

My Mum had fibrositis . I am still not convinced it is hereditary .I fall with the hormone inblance theory. I spoke to a man with fibro who took the contraceptive pill and said it had turn his life around for the better he was able to ride his bike go fishing again !

in reply to aura2

Hi i was the one i think? Fibro is in my family on mums side and when took part in a country wide study speaking to ones running it they said yes passed down so would be a genetic disposition!

Pill i tried after doing lot's(shed loads)of research was a natural E tried for two weeks it brought my T levels up as had been checked by Quack as that was all he wanted to do why given the boot! NFP.

From what i worked out it sort of resets the system so body says hey need to get me skates on!

but changed so many things like tight muscles so walked far better instead of like a duck.

Had energy even though tired and slept better as used to sleep wake up sleep wake up so much at night did actually sleep for longer.

Pain in base of spine like been kicked hard was gone along with constant got a go bladder and many other things.

Also mind was more focussed/relaxed

Some things returned more quickly where as others was much slower somethings didn't really return either or changed them!

Yet when they put me on T to raise it as had been before @ 7 after pill @11

As ive a Pituitary tumour which think had pretty long while as had issues for long time that Quacks dismissed as they do like hair falling out below.

When Endo put me on T as said that's male! had all sorts of issues constant pains/aches/breathing issues/head aches/chest pains/felt like crap/plus not to mention a large amount of breast growth bigger than many of my friends!.

Along with after being in hospital many times as never joined the pesky dots together(clots)as ended up having a small stroke as BP went through roof mines normally pretty low

I did talk to Endo about what i'd found out ive Asperger's so can work things out so quickly id been through loads of USA sites and world over even one in states where they have been giving middle aged males an E shot which made them go off like a Duracell bunny and so many other things i'd found and told them about it but they didn't want to know as just say E is female yet both sexes have Estrogen.Progesterone and Testosterone so in females if you had zero T you'd become very ill and infertile amongst other things along with not being able to do much at all.

Like wise in males no E infertile cells don't grow and a lot of other things.

Progesterone is the precursor to both E&T it also along with E controls the prostate! as natural/micronised P will deal with prostate issues(but they don't want you to know that as want you to use there drugs which cause many 2nd ary issues as we all well know)

Got to know about by one of the things found! as elderly couple the wife was using P cream for HRT he was rubbing it in for her then after a while noticed his prostate issues went away!

Also know about an older lady being given T she said wouldn't take anymore after a while as her husband couldn't keep up as she went off like a rampant rabbit!

Hormones are everything they are like the god in our bodies without them we are nothing they control everything build everything but also like a key as has to be right for each person as one size don't fit all as our sum of parts are all varied so each persons needs are different we are all somewhere between male and female i also know males that have very high E levels that live normally well they do have rather large chest 36G but other than that ok wife is ok with that.

Also females with very high T and also lives ok has children to.

But once they get out from behind there PC screens and actually look&learn plus listen a lot of the issues with the likes of us but also many others will be dealt with

The USA and OZ seem to be miles ahead of UK with it as it's something that should be looked into more Uk side there far to blinkered/head stuck in the mud

Hi aura2,

I have heard things like this over the years, you and I belong to the same club [25+years living with FM]

It is not outside the realm of possibility. It is an autoimmune disease and they can run in families. Like if your parent has lupus your odds increase for getting that same disease, but I have a very large family and extended family and I am the only one with FM. Apples and oranges.

~Sharon

well my cousin on my Paternal side has just been also diagnosed so... i'm guessing mine may have come from the paternal source/genepool.

Hello, I believe that there is some hereditary/ genetic link with fibromyalgia. However I believe that it was my father who had all the symptoms, but no formal diagnosis. I also have a cousin on my paternal side that has been diagnosed. However, there are probably other factors involved in fibromyalgia "coming to the surface", maybe stressful event, hormones, other conditions.

That's very interesting. I feel certain that my late mother had something very similar. When I think of all the symptoms she complained of. I also think I remember it being called fibrositis. I wish I had asked her more about it.

My personal take on this is that we carry a gene and something like a trauma sets it off.

It does seem odd in that it features more in women but then a lot of autoimmune conditions, which fibro tends to accompany, feature more women too.

Of course we may have relatives who have undiagnosed fibro but are putting their aches and pains down to overwork or getting older.

It is a very interesting concept.

i totally agree with you on this one. i think certain people carry the gene and then something happens/trauma and then that sets it off.

case in point- my cousin, just had her first baby. she said it was really hard for her and somewhat traumatic- she's now been diagnosed with fibro although she had said she had ached for a few years before that.

i won't speak about my trauma but there is plenty of it and i will agree that i think it in some part does have a part to play in my fibro.

I started feeling the pain after my 7 month old daughter passed away...so I think it's stress related ..I was ok before that .....

You need to google it. Yes they have found DNA markers from people in same family with FM. Can't download it as brain isn't working at mo. I was in clinical tests to find the DNA stuff a few years ago.

From what my studies tell me, no one knows for sure the origin of FM, but there is conjecture that it is genetic, and since most of the people that have are women, that means it might be the mother...

Ha ha - Unless you ask my mother. Her first answer is "It's not my fault!"

Laurie Lee .i have researched into it and found different answer from research .

Yes one says they have found evidence in DNA another says they haven't.

I have been involved in a few research programmes also a Ginney pig for my alternative therapist for myofacial release. To help with the pain .

There are so many theories out there I still believe nobody really knows .

Some of the symptoms do run in my family

Carpel tunnel

Sleep problems

Back problems etc .
