Do any of you get fed up with going to "disabled friendly places" to find this description is only due to having wide doors. Today my sister drove me to a lovely pub for my birthday Access into pub was fine toilets fine however there was no way other than steps in and out to the beer garden and on such s lovely day and using crutches I couldn't get out there.

Hi Maureen1one No it's not just you my friend. We have a lovely pub right in the sea front, lovely food, area for the kids to play, what more could you want I hear you say, A toilet that's not at the top of 3 steep steps grrrrrr...

A member only posted last week, she managed to get to the church for her friends memorial and they had no ramp, she couldn't go in ! I was saying to her, I thought everywhere had to provide disabled access, apparently not.

Yea! I hear you!

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your day as much as possible. Hoped you had a Happy Birthday nevertherless! 🎉

The most ridiculous one is a certain phone provider who has wide doors but high chair to see the Guru. No chair with back support in less you request one. To be refused once until I spelled it out to the idiot once!

Someone somewhere must have done a real dissabled friendly services no? 💗

Hi Maureen1one

I think the thing with disabilities is that at the moment it seems to be that if the organisation/company's make reasonable adjustments they see that as being ok.

I just wonder what a reasonable adjustment or adaptation is defined as.

Good luck my friend

I have a feeling it hasn't actually been defined. And I think it varies from place to place. 🙃

I asked about disabled access, parking, etc when booked a show for mams birthday.

It was special so I needed it all sorted out b4 we went.

I won't be able to go again, nearly killed me, too far to get in the building even though I was dropped outside, no seats only one lift, disabled loo no hook on door for your handbag,

Had to queue to leave, as they emptied the building from the top floor first, so the lift took ages, we were first floor.

I think I may write and give e some advice re disability help access, as their view is different to mine, so they should ask the people it affects

Hi thinks that's exactly what I'm going mad about your experience is ruined by thoughtlessness. I bet when you rang they said they were disabled friendly blah blahxx

Yes ur right, they did say there was help and disabled access, staff were no help, our lives are limited and more so because of thoughtlessness.

I've got that I cannot rely on another person's interpretation of disability, its very sad

Hi Maureen1one you are absolutely right !

There is no consistency on what is classed as disabled friendly and everybody has different ideas about being disability friendly/ accessible.

I find now if I am going somewhere new to me planning this trip is like planning a military operation.

If it involves an overnite stay its a hotel/ motel with ground floor rooms that I can drive my mobility scooter into and back and forth to the disabled space.A hotel of 150 rooms with maybe 3 blue badge spaces avaliable -really ? Some need them more than others.

Then at the venue itself.any steps ,ramps etc - its a complete nightmare .Nothing can be done last minute any longer and no spontaneity.

Recently went to book a hotel in CI.Are you disability friendly - yes .Do you have disable parking - yes .Do you have any available ground floor rooms- yes.Went ahead to make the booking.Oh you'll be ok with couple of steps at reception then ?What couple of steps ? The ones to get to the door to the ground floor rooms ?So its NOT disabled friendly then ? My scooter does go up steps. --- ggggrrrrhhh.Time trouble and effort wasted and no booking made..

So you with you all the way on this one............
