Hi there

Pain Clinics vary hugely from county to county. Some offer 6 weeks (attending once per week) to a type of group therapy with people who suffer with chronic pain.

Dependant upon where you are some offer other help in the form of acupuncture, physio CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) etc.

Sometimes you will just see one Pain Consultant which is what happened with me. I waited just over a year for the appointment.

I was offered steroid injections at the point of my pain which I then had to wait a further 6 months for.

Unfortunately all the injections have done is to make my pain worse, which I didn't think was possible.

I then waited a further 6 months to go back and see her, but she wasn't there and I saw her nurse.

The nurse said that the pain should not have got worse (well why would I say it has if it hasn't?) and she said I would have to go back again to see the Pain Consultant.

The earliest appointment they could offer me was 4 months away!

Bearing in mind that it's about 20 odd miles there and then back again each time I am getting pretty fed up of it to be honest.

Having said all this, there are many people who have had wonderful results from their Pain Clinics.

Fingers crossed for you that you find it helpful :)

Good luck

Lu xx
