Tmj
Hi, I have TMJ, my dentist said the jaw is the only joint you cannot get oa in, but I have since learnt that this is not true. mine comes and goes, but I also have Trigeminal neuralgia so sometimes I might be confusing which pain is which, if you know what I mean! I have a mouth guard from my dentist which helps, but up it was expensive. I'm on, co codamol, pregabalin and amitriptyline, and also try relaxing my jaw, sometimes my whole face, massage, heat therapy and cutting up foods like apples to help ease the pain and also help prevent it, and also to stop the jaw locking. Hope this helps, gentle hugs, Julie xxx
Hi,
I have TMJ. My dentist made a mouth guard for me which has helped considerably.

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering with TMJ. It is not something that I experience myself but I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with finding the answers that you are looking for.
All my hopes and dreams for you

I've had TMJD for the past 25 years. It has improved over the past few years, but it's not going to go away.
It *is* a common part of fibro, but can also be part of other issues, and can also occur on its own.
My jaw used to dislocate and subluxate and would often "lock" either open or closed, causing vast amounts of pain and making it exremely difficult to eat and drink, let alone talk or go about life in any normal manner.
These days it doesn't dislocate as often, but still occasionally subluxates and only rarely locks. I clench my teeth and get a lot of muscle ache in my jaw.
I've just been referred to get a mouthguard made up, but the maxillofacial specialist told me yesterday that they don't make them at the hospital, which is not true as I was there (literally just 30 seconds down the corridor from her office) 2 weeks ago getting one made for my daughter, who has been diagnosed with TMJD also, and an MRI showed she has torn the disc in the jaw.
My specialist is going to refer me on to my dentist to get one made. Previously my dentist told me it would cost me £80, but I'm hoping with the referral they will waive the cost, as that's prohibitive to me.
I've never taken pain relief for it, I tend to just put up with the pain. Recently though, I was prescribed long term, consistent paracetamol by my gp. I have not noticed any difference in my pain levels over all, but my gp refuses to prescribe any of the things my rheumatologist has asked for me to start on, so I'm feeling somewhat stuck.
I have an appt with the Pain Management Clinic pharmacist next week, so I'm hoping that I may be offered some help there.
yes I have tmj, the left side of my jaw cracks, aches, and when I eat it seems to get tired very quickly, if that makes sense, and always gives me mild earache in my left ear. ive had it about 4-5 years I think. I take co-codamol, gabapentin and a cox2 inhibitor (anti inflammatory) hope your pain eases soon x
I have tmj was, like everyone else. Funny that fibro has many facets to it. Has anyone had any operations since being diagnosed? How did that effect you?
Peace to you all.
Just talked to a farmers daughter whose mom had tmj everyday. She had the surgery they said. And it didnt make the pain any lesser. Stinks. I have had tmj for 5 days now. First couple of days when i sneezed i popped my jaw. Ouch! Less pain, but still cant clench down without pain yet. Taking natural anti inflammatories, muscle relaxers. Nothing curing this. Ugh!
Also what about if you injury yourself?
My problems all started with tmj 15 years ago...
I recently read somewhere that tmj problems can cause neck problems and that can have a domino effect on the rest of the body
