Hello Suzanna,

Hope you are well.

I know how you feel as I've been through the same. I'm also on pregabalin a long with another dozen painkillers!! Doctors cannot do much at this moment since Iv had Fibro for 8 years now. I felt that massages really help and recently I have started going to the gym. It has not only helped reduce the pains in my ankle and shoulders it has also helped me to eat sensibly. Ask your GP to refer you to the gym, and once you are being monitored by a nutritionalist/gym instructor who can tell you and guide you on how much except use to do and how often. Of course you'll start off with small steps eventually and surely you'll see the benefits.

Wish you well

What patches are they? I've always found mine to be of great benefit and have no side affects...I place mine on my lower back as it's the only place I can tolerate them..is this an option for you?

I take 140mcg burprenorphine which is in the form of 2 patches at once and without it I couldn't get out of bed, I tried pregablin and it did nothing, didn't touch the pain at all...I have fibro and back problems..

I've just come off Butrans patches as my doctor does not seem to believe that opiates help fibro and I was having a bad reaction where the patches were regardless of where I placed them. I must admit that I have noticed that the stiffness in the morning is worse and the pain in the lower back so they must have been doing something. I am also on Pregablin which help the neurpathic pain but doesn't touch the lower back. I take ibuprophen and paracetamol I think the ibuprophen does more good than the paractemol as if I miss it I can hardly move. I started on a low dose antidepressant two weeks back but at the moment am finding no difference but he has said it could take up to 6 weeks for the pain relief to kick in.

Can I ask what the other drug was he offered you for the pain? I can understand your reluctance to try something else after your reaction to the patches.

Pain will make you extremely drained and tired. Nadz suggestion about gentle exercise is excellent and the only thing I found that really helped but was unfortunately limited by funding in my area was hydrothereapy I started to feel a real improvement especically in my upper back.

I sincerely hope you can find something to help you.xxx

It seems at the moment you are doing everything you can. I was the same with swimming used to swim at least 75 lengths a week but now find the baths far too cold that is why I love the hydrotherapy I would have happily lived in that pool. Have you tried Epsom salt baths as the warm water combined with the salts can often help the deep muscular pain and help your body to relax it is on my agenda tonight as I have had two awful nights with alot of pain and no rest. I tend to have showers in the warmer weather but it is the bath for me tonight, mind you clambering out might be another matter. Hope you manage to get some rest tonight as that makes such a difference.x

I am so very sorry to read this, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I would definitely discuss this with them again and ask what medications they are willing to try you on?

I want to sincerely and genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hiya

Did the Dr give any explanation of the leg/ankle swelling? Did he feel it was related to the buttons? As these are opioids I am surprised he stopped them so suddenly unless the tablets are also of a similar type as otherwise you could have some withdrawal symptoms.

Unfortunately a lot of Dr's are not up to date with the use of opioids in chronic pain though there is some discussion that they really aren't that helpful in the long run due to them affecting our bodies in other ways.

You could push for a referral to the pain team though this may take a while.

Hope you get this sorted and your pain eases
