Hi.

I'm new to this. I haven't actually been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

I suffer with a bad back and have done for years. In 2010 I had a lot of problems with cysts on my ovaries etc, so I was sent for an MRI scan, not only did the scan show endometriosis, but it also showed that I had a herniated disc in my back and near complete deterioration of my lower discs....at last I had an answer for all my back and stomach problems, after being ignored for so long by the Dr's.!! I'd been left to my own devices, so I was spending £100's of £'s on chiropractor's and even reflexology to help with the pain.

Fast forward to November 2012, I went for a medical assessment to see if I could get employment support. I'd been in bed for a week before the assessment, as I had a middle ear infection and was falling about all over the place, so I was more rested than normal when I went for this test. Anyway on a scale of 0 to 15, 15 being the score for disability allowance, I scored 0, even though they had letters from the chiropractor who was treating me, and a copy of my MRI scan showing my disc problems!!

Since that assessment, I have got considerably worse, the pain radiates throughout my body, there's no let up from the pain.

In january 2014 I got a hospital appointment to see a pain management Dr. He saw my scan results and decided to give me a lumbar spine injection.

I also got a letter through from the gynaecologist for a laparoscopy, the week after my lumbar spine injection!!

The injection only lasted 48 hours, apparently it was the anaesthetic that made me feel good. And the laparoscopy worked for a few months, now the endometriosis has come back.

I'm under the GP, she's very kind and wants to help me get to the bottom of my pain and sorting it out.

I suggested to her that maybe I had fibromyalgia, she said its a possibility, but we need to eliminate things one at a time. At the moment I'm on strong pain killers.

I don't know all the symptons for fibromyalgia, I just know that EVERYTHING in my body hurts. I feel worse when it's damp. I wake up in the morning and I'm as stiff as a board.

I'm extremely tired all the time. I feel very dizzy. Sometimes nauseous. I get headaches on a regular basis. My daughter thinks I have Alzheimer's as she's studying psychology at school. I'm extremely forgetful. The other day I drove to the petrol station, filled the car up with petrol, and I didn't have my bag with me, I thought I'd put it in the car, but I hadn't!!

I really need some advice, do I have the right symptoms??

Regards.

Lisa xx

Hello, it can take time to reach a diagnosis as fibro shares many of its symptoms with other conditions, all a process of elimination. I hope you find answers soon. Lou x

Hi Blondedia,

Your post really sounded so familiar to me, I have also spent a fortune with the chiropractor! My back problems go back years, to when my sons were small, and I know I have a problem disc. However, I am now diagnosed with under active thyroid, pernicious anaemia, and fibromyalgia. What is worth trying is adding some supplements to your diet, and maybe asking your GP for a B12 blood test? My mental confusion was a symptom of the pernicious anaemia, I'm still not sure what is causing the aches and pains, but, a calcium, magnesium,& vitD3 tablet at night is helping. I am also on three monthly B12 injections. B12 supplements are available at health food shops too. Do hope you find a solution to your pain? All good wishes MariLiz
