Hi Joshua3
I sincerely hope that you are feeling well today? I have pasted you a link to the ATOS website whereby it explains all about PIP assessments. There is one small piece of advice that I would personally say and this is do not do anything that you feel that you cannot do! Tell them if you cannot do something and do not try to do it!

I want to wish you all the best of luck with your assessment.
All my hopes and dreams for you

Why do they come to the home and not a assessment centre
I had my PIP Assessment recently & felt just like you! I really wound myself up for weeks & for no reason! I didn't have mine at home but I'm sure the assessment is no different. Just try to relax & just be yourself. I was simply asked how I managed with my daily life & how my health problems affected me on a day to day basis. I told them EXACTLY how I felt & how difficult day to day life is! My assessor simply wrote everything down that I said - I know this because I received a copy of his report! There were lots of things I forgot because I was so anxious but that didn't make any difference.. I won my award! It had taken me 4 years & a lot of heartache but I got there! If I can do it, so can you. I really believe that if you speak from your heart (I actually cried during the interview because I felt they hadn't believed that I really wasn't well at all) that you will be okay. Maybe have someone with you when they come, just for support.
Another tip.. I refused to carry out any sort of examination or do any physical test (lifting my arms above my head etc). They MAY ask dependent on your condition but I don't do those sorts of things in my day to day life.. mainly because I'd end up in bed for days if I did them! An examination is NOT necessary - they will have GP/Specialist reports & as they are not Specialists themselves, I would not allow that!
I wish you every success & please try not to worry... It's not as bad as you may think...
Hi glad you won but how did you say to them you aren't doing any physical test ? did you say I cant do it or I am not doing it and what was there reply I also have fibro plus cancer and spinal stenosis I have just reapplied for DLA just waiting to hear from them thanks .xx
A bit of both really bigpants! At any Assessment I have had, I have always refused. I also receive ESA (Support Group) & prior to being put into the Support Group, I had to have 6 monthly Assessments at an Assessment Centre 25 miles away from home. When asked to perform any physical 'test', for example: lifting my arms above my head or bending over, I always politely said that I would not do ANY physical test due to my health conditions. Neither my GP nor Specialists would ask me to do those things, so I feel it unreasonable for an Assessor (with NO medical knowledge of my specific conditions!) to ask me to perform these 'tests'. I would also state that if I did those things, I would be bed-ridden for days & that was unfair. They accepted my refusal. As for my PIP Assessment - the Doctor didn't seem happy but knows that he cannot ask you to do something that may exasperate your condition or something that is considered unreasonable. I don't do those 'physical' movements in my day-to-day life because I can't - that's the whole reason I require the PIP. Logically, if you can do the physical tests then you don't need the help! x
Why do they come to our homes x
There could be a number of reasons.. If you live 90 minutes away from the nearest Assessment Centre, if they consider you to be 'unfit to travel', if you normally have GP visits at home or you can request one dependent on your condition. For example, if you have a Mental Health condition that means going out in public is difficult for you or if you are bed-ridden x
I'm sorry to hear that you have COPD & a Chest Infection.. not nice at all Joshua! If it's any consolation, I suffer from Asthma (along with other health problems!) so can sympathize & unfortunately, when you have any 'lung' problems you are susceptible to infection etc. I would imagine this is the reason why they are coming to you. I wish I had requested a 'home' visit - I was absolutely exhausted after making the effort to get to the Assessment Centre! You'll probably feel more relaxed in your own home & certainly less stressed if you don't have to struggle to get to them!
I hope you feel better soon x
You will just have to answer questions about your disability. They are changing DLA to pip gradually. It's all about how much you can do for yourself apparently.
Hi everyone I am having a home assessment next weds and I am really worried so reading all your comments on here has helped. I suffer from chronic lower back pain and struggle with ANY Medications I take. I was very worried when I found out I was receiving a home visit but I think that reading my form they must have decided that was what was best for me, hopefully that will go in my favour. This is the 1st time I have applied for any benefit because of my detiorating health so I am quite worried, hopefully the person will be nice!!! Thanks again
