Bowen treatment
Hiya, did the Bowen therapist tell you to expect any adverse reactions to the therapy? Maybe you should contact them and ask if these reactions are normal afterwards.
I have not personally tried Bowen, but have tried Reiki and acupuncture, and I experienced bad side effects with both, nausea, shaking, sweating. The one therapy that I can tolerate well is reflexology, which helps me relax and makes me feel like I am "glowing" all over.
I think as with medications, what helps or works for one person, does not necessarily help another.
When I had it done I was told you may have pains in other places that you have not had before this is your bodies way of trying to heal itself. That's what I was told x
Hi Shazzzy
I am so sorry to read that you are having these symptoms after your Bowen's treatment, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to these issues. The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapy that is applied using very gentle pressure. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform Bowen’s unique sets of rolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue of the body.
I am not a doctor so I cannot say for definite what has happened to you? However, I can have a layman's opinion on what could be giving you problems? I can hazard a guess, and it may be that certain nerves or muscles have been stimulated by the pressure used and given you a mixture of shock sensations and pain?
I have pasted you two links from NHS Choices relating to peripheral neuropathy and pins and needles pages, so I hope that you find them useful:

nhs.uk/conditions/periphera...
I honestly think if this issue persists or gets any worse you should discuss the problem with your GP. However, I would be tempted to discuss the problem with my GP regardless? I would definitely have a talk with your therapist prior to your next session.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken x
Thanks Ken,
It is one of my doctors that gave me the treatment, this is my 2nd time of having it. The first time resulted in 3 days of migraines and sore body but in the long run it helped by loosening up the very taut muscles in my neck and upper back area. I always expect pain after any treatment, its the nature of the illness, but it was the electric shock sensations that worried me a bit. You are spot on with the bowen description, though even using gentle pressure is very intense and painful whilst being manipulated. I will check out the websites you mention.
I had some very intense massage from a chiropractor and I was in agony afterwards. I had cluster migraines for ages and had to go to see my GP about them. So I never had a massage again.
Best of luck with the Bowens

My dad is a bowen therapist so I have had a lot of bowen done on me over the years, with bowen things can get worse pain wise for the first three days after a treatment and then things start to improve. I find it's just everything realigning and the energies adjusting in my body then it all evens out and I start to feel the benefit from the treatment.
Thanx scarletangeal, thats exactly what i found,I do think the 3 days of pain are worth it.
Thank you for such a thorough explanation. I still see my Bowen practitioner regularly and it does help me deal with my symptoms.
