Fibro Fatigue

Hello everyone, I have a question. Every time I do something physical like clean the house or do something where I put out some energy, I find that I'm so exhausted that I sleep more than 8 hours the next day. Yesterday I cleaned my shower and slept for 15 hours. Is this normal for people with Fibro?

I have the same problem if I do any house work or walk to much I get exhausted

I have trouble sleeping just the opposite of you as I have so much pain in my legs back and arms

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, I have pain medication. They also helps me to sleep. Before the pain meds I had insomnia bad. I have been taking the pain meds for about 3 months now and I have already noticed that my body has become dependent on then. I'm sure my doctor won't keep me on them for much longer. I have been told to go to a pain clinic so soon I will have to deal with getting off the pain meds and not having a quick fix to relieve my pain.

Hi Mark, if your doctor is worth anything then he will be aware that it is his job to keep you as pain free as he can, after three months your body will only just about be beginning to get used to the meds, your thought that you are dependant on them is probably, and I don't mean this in any way nastily, but it is one you have created, not an actuality! I would be very surprised if someone was hooked on prescribed meds as fast as that. You are going to a pain clinic, which is a good thing, they may change your meds around, and perhaps offer different things, but I doubt very much they will want you off all pain medication. I hope this reassures you to some extent and if you need sleep then sleep, sleep is a great healer. I wish you well :-)

Hi Mark, don't worry I am the same and I am sure there are many others who are like us. I only have to do one smallish job ( altho. cleaning the shower is a major job for me!!! ) and I have to sit down and rest. I will pay for it for several days in terms of fatigue and pain. Our house is the worst it has been at Christmas. The whole house is such a muddle. The dining room has become a dumping ground. I shall have to clear the table ( by putting stuff on the floor!! ) so that we can have our meal later. We'll be having our breakfast in a mo. and just one end is clear for that! If you need to sleep for 15 hours then so be it. That is obviously what your body needs to help you recover. I have been worrying about all that I haven't managed to do but since it is only my OH and me and our 2 cats and 2 dogs then I have managed to convince myself that it really doesn't matter. I would have liked the house to look a bit tidier but hey ho, I haven't been able to manage it. I know that I am much worse than last year in terms of fatigue and pain so I just have to resign myself to it. I have had Fibro. for about 15 years now. I also have osteo arthritis so that is very painful, too. Hope this reassures you, Mark. I hope that you are able to have a reasonably pain free day and that you aren't feeling too fatigued. Festive gentle hugs, Saskia. XX

I am tired all the time.when I get tired like that we call it a fibro-coma.i know when I am gonna go so I get myself in a safe place as much as possible.you have to make sure if possible you are warm as well.i find I go really cold, unlike the usual fibro over heating !!! I haven't found anything that helps this not even sleeping!

Yes this is perfectly normal, fibro is pain and fatigue. Hard to say which has biggest impact on life really but i am exactly as you describe, i usually have to weigh up wether something is worth the pain and /or exhaustion before doing it, that is why we are alwsys told to pace ourselves and take frequent rests whilst cleaning shower or whatever!

Very normal. U have to learn to pace yourself. When I have a flare up I do as little as possible then when I ,m feeling better I do more but never as much as I think i should otherwise it makes u worse again

any exertion leaves me in pain and the only option is to go to bed fro a while .sometimes now walking my dogs gets too much when the older one chooses to go on a longer walk.i sometimes end up getting on a bus home as cant walk any further (if I remember to take my purse with me),house work is minimal tho I try to do one room each day.

yes It's very normal It's called chronic fatigue I get it a lot and your body is just telling you to rest when it needs it x

I have been told to go to Pool Therapy. Will this help my fatigue or just make me more tired?

Hi I have actually been to pool therapy. The pool is just the right temperature and the physio with you gives you exercises in the pool. It is really lovely and afterwards I did feel better and my daughter said I was a lot better. In my area you can have 6 sessions and thats your lot. They then say go to the swimming pool but it is not the same the water is not the same temperature and is not as relaxed. If you want my advice have a go you have nothing to lose.

Good luck bye for now Love A xx

I have startes sleeping deeply for 2 more hours after mine alarm has gonr off. If I don't get up I'm gone. So annoying that I dont feel any better for the extra sleep. Anything physical wipes me out completely. Loving having the 2 weeks off for Christmas no work!

Hi elliedolly firstly, I really admire you for working and keeping your independence. I know what you mean about the deep sleep. I can be up all night in and out of bed slapping cream on my legs and back then at about 5am I fall asleep and can sleep for England. Whether it is pure exhaustion I dont know but that sleep is deep sleep although I like you dont feel any better for it. This fibro is great never know where it will hit us next. At least its not boring and certainly keeps us on out toes.

Have a lovely New Year. Bye for now Love A xx

Hi I have a busy house 3 step kids at the weekend and one kid all week of my own who is autistic and can't focus in mess and two active dogs. It's not easy and I Won't say I have it mastered yet. Tuesday-Thursday I generally tidy. Do a job then sit. Monday &Friday I big clean but must nap. Dogs get out 1 hour in the morning and 20x 3 if I'm not manage it gets delegated to someone else. I have sleeping problems even on pain meds so if I nap it has to be just after lunch and only an hour. I do no cleaning at the weekend as all my energy goes on the kids. Everyday no matter what I put my feet up in the afternoon for an hour. When my parter is at home he helps but it makes me feel guilty as I'm at home all day and he works all day. This plan has took me over a year to do sort. Pacing myself and knowing what I can do. Hope this is some help. X
