Does anybody else suffer with chronic trapped wind which does not appear to be diet related and if so what do you take for it?

Sometimes i wish that my wind problems were trapped : - )) joking aside i know that it is very painful, and sort of an old wives tale but can help is to drink some flat coke but you would not want to be drinking that everyday as not the healthiest of stuff.

Thanks, l have been taking a Calcium Bicarbonate tablet but they just don't seem to be doing anything and since l've had this three times in a year when no previous problems l am wondering if it's a symptom of something else.

Just a useful tip which I discover post operatively (having had my appendix wiped out) was to drink warm water with a bit of peppermint essence in it, or even to suck pepper mints, the odd thing was that the wind was trapped in my shoulder,(prob not the normal place :o ) but, it did work.

My mum used to swear by warm water for trapped wind.I also had painful trapped wind in my shoulder after my hysterectomy op, so you're not alone there Foggy! On the medication front, Windcheaters from pharmacies and supermarkets are also excellent.

Actually you've reminded me, I had exactly the same when I had a hysterectomy years ago and that took a great deal longer to move. I understand they put gas into your stomach for abdominal ops, and it has to find it's own way out and gets trapped in very odd places ;-)

Peppermint oil is the answer.

I have had Ibs for years and a researcher I know gave me samples of several products. By far the best is Colpermin drunk with Luke warm water. I don't go anywhere without it and nor do my daughters both in their 30s.

The pain can be anywhere so long as you know it's wind reach for the Colpermin!

Gut issues can be linked to LOW Iron - IBS is just that - a syndrome - meaning there are many ingredients to the cake .... :-) Have you had your Ferritin Iron Folates B12 VitD tested ?

Ok - this is very inelegant so best done in private! My parents used to run a pub and a remedy my mum told me about worked wonders for me. Take a small bottle/can of tonic water, open and drink down immediately. The carbon dioxide bubbles seem to force out the trapped wind (don't know if the quinine helps as not tried alternative fizzy drink). Feels like Vesuvius for a moment or two but the eruption is well worth it ;) Fortunately I've not suffered for a while but I always keep a small can handy just in case x

I take activated charcoal for wind, it works wonderfully. It works for flatulence and offensive wind and also for trapped wind. Very cheap and you can get it off the Internet. It really works.

In some heath food stores you can get Charcoal biscuits, I find they help.
