I went to see my gp yesterday and he wasn't interested in the chronic pain I am in and basically told me to find a job-I am now reporting this useless idiot to the general medical council under the failure to respond reasonably to a patients need has anyone else got a useless GP?

Hi Scott. I am new on here and was diagnosed with fibro a month ago after decades of being told by doctors that it was depression.

My new doctor has been amazing. I am now getting the help that I have needed.

Perhaps I shouldnt say this, but maybe younger doctors may be a bit more understanding.

I hope you find the help you need.

me too :) very annoying!

However my current GP faught to get me diagnosed and is very understanding :)

Hi there,Iam also about to post about my trip to my g.p Yesturday who said that Iam fit and healthy and my muscles are not weak and that I should be able to function as normal and that it was the depression causing it despite me saying that I was depressed as fibro is worse.I only got a referral to mental health and not pain management. If this is right then how comes I need two carers and I can't work and I struggle to do the basic day to day things?Iam very angry with her and will have to change g.p practise again. Its so hard isn't it when you can't get your g.p on your side :(

I just find it so sad. Sometimes it is hard to explain our symptoms and we look ok on the outside. I always feel like people just dont understand. How can they? They cant feel our pain. Sometimes it is so frustrating.

Hi there, this sort of treatment by doctors makes me want to somehow make them feel what we go through on a daily basis, and then let them say "it's all down to depression" or " it's all in your head". Gggrrrr

I do think Sophia may have a point about younger doctors being more aware of fibro, I have a feeling they are taught more about it at medical school, so they come out with a much more open minded approach.

I'm sorry scott and haribo that you have suffered so much rubbish at the hands of your doctors. You could also think about either changing doctors, or asking for a second opinion, just a thought !

Hi, My GP really don't know anything about Fibro, I have been with him 15 years and in every other way he is great, everything is always investigated , so any new symptom is investigated several times, it always comes back as Fibro.

I do suffer from depression on and off and have done since I was about 15, even though I was not depressed when the fibro really flared up, after seeing several rheumy's in the end I saw a young rheumy I wrote down all my symptoms and he said I'm sure you have Fibro, I had never heard of it before, after more tests he diagnosed me with fibro, but as I said my GP don't know much about it, he even admitted that to me, I am seeing mental health also, but because he is so good with my other issues I'm reluctant to change him he has never made me feel I'm wasting his time and also as he don't know about fibro he never assumes it's fibro which is good in a way.

But as said above I think younger DR seem to know more about it, so perhaps you should ask at your surgery if they have a GP that knows about fibro and ask to change to him/ her

Sorry for rambling on!!! :(

Sadly there does seem to be far more GP's that are ignorant of various conditions, esp chronic ones, than there are those in the know. I have been lucky so far in that anything my medical practice is unsure about they ask others or make referrals to find the correct info. It was one of the GP's in our practice that diagnosed my fibro and one of the nurses that said I had lymphoedema which I then passed onto the GP who made a referral. Don't get me wrong, they are not perfect and sometimes it takes some time to get things right, but they do try.
