Each day is a new day....

I have had Fibro since I was 12 years old, I am now 57 years young !

Pilates and a healthy diet helps lessen the pain, not everyday but most days, I have to drag myself out of my bed everyday as I do not sleep well, and yes gentle stretches, Yoga and lying in the Hydro pool works.

Each day try to be positive, smile and know we are all here for each other, I know how hard life is having lost a marriage, business, and my home, so come on we can do this

Thankyou, I will try my very best to keep smiling! I've started healthy eating 4 weeks ago to try and shift the 2 and a half stone I've put on since January when I had to go off sick. I was already a little overweight so I'm trying to shift some weight to make it easier for myself. Not sure what to do on the exercise front as yet, Im still hobbling round on a crutch and cant really manage much but I'll keep trying xx

Hi vintagerose i've literally just joined 5 minutes ago and love your positive attitude. I hope to think like that at some point. I have suffered for 6 years now and finally in september i got a diagnosis from a rheumatologist- fibromyalgia. It seemed a relief at the time to know what on earth had been going on with me all that time. The past year i have found things very difficult what with symptoms getting worse and lasting a lot longer. I had to give up work in august there and find am so angry with myself. I absolutely loved my jobs as a registered childminder/creche assistant but knew i was struggling to manage it. I've found over the past couple of days i've been feeling(pain wise) quite good compared to the past few months but have started feeling very low. I appreciate the fact that i am able to do things that i havent been able to for quite some time but cant seem to shift this feeling. I was put onto amitriptyline by the rheumatologist but couldnt cope with the side effects of the 25mg. He then put me down to 10mg but i still have side effects. Doc thinks its because i'm so small. I'm 4ft 11 and weigh just under seven stone. I cant eat when i'm in pain anyway doc stopped them. I thought i was going to get some decent nights sleep which lifted me a bit but am still having awful nights. Can you give me any advice please? Docs havent been very good in that sense. I was told i had fibro and that was that no advice given nothing.

Hi kittyfisher and a warm welcome to this fantastic site full off caring, kind and supportive people who will go out of their way to help you as best they can.I myself have had fibro for 8 Years and was diagnosed 7 years ago.I also had to give up working myself 7 years ago and was a registered nurse working in a hospice.Iam glad that you have had better pain relief but you need to go back to your g.p or perhaps you could try a different one in your practise? It doesn't sound as if yours is very helpful so failing that try joining a different g.p surgery as it is very helpful if you get a g.p who is open to trying out different treatment options. There are other meds you can try to help with your sleep and mood.plus,it may be helpful if your g.p can refer to the pain management team as they can help you to cope with your pain and try to find the right meds to help with your sleep, pain and depression. Also,if you click on the butterfly on the top right hand corner there is a wealth of info on here about fibro, treatments etc..Hope that helps you :) xxx

Hi haribo36

Thank you so much for your reply. Do you cope ok? Are you on all the right meds? I must try a different doc at the gp's c if he is anymore helpful. I read on another site diet is important. R u on a special diet? Sorry i'm asking so many questions i'm just so glad i found you all its fantastic :-)

That's o.k,you can ask as many questions as you want,if I can't answer then there will be someone else on here who can.ATM Iam not coping very well as I have been poorly for quite a whole now.My fibro symptoms are in a flare which seems to be lasting forever.Ive been struggling with urine infections for two years, have kidney pain, whole body pain and weakness, constant migraines, ibs flared up and depression is getting worse.Iam going to see my doc Wednesday so hopefully will get some new treatment.Regarding diet it is recommended that you follow a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and beneficial to cut back on processed, fatty foods, cakes, biscuits etc.. Also if you can cut back on caffeine and alcohol as well.Taking a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement is beneficial which includes magnesium as well.Iam reading a very good book that I got from Amazon ATM called "the fibromyalgia healing diet"by Christine cragg-Hinton which is really good and explains what foods and supplements can help fibromyalgia.Hope this all helps you Hun,gentle hugs, haribo xxx

Hi haribo thank u so much for all your advice. i wish you all the luck in the world that you get some new treatment on wednesday and your flare up eases for you soon. Its so darn horrible isnt and i find my family just dont get it, they just dont understand what its like but when i am in such pain and my head feels like its going to explode i find heat helps. Does it for you? I take myself off to bed put the electric blanket on and i put a hot water bottle on my head along with all the meds of course but i find it eases things abit to the point where i can actually get a bit of a sleep mind you dont know if its the heat or all the meds that has really knocked me out. It really is tough to get through each day. At the minute i've just went through a 9 week flare up but the past 4 days has been a good bit easier though i find my mood still really low and i could cry at the least wee thing. My memory really frustrates me like yesterday so many things went wrong for i kept misplacing things or i was sending texts to the wrong people and come last night i just couldnt find my glasses and i got so angry with myself i just burst out crying. Thank you for the hugs and sending some back to you kitty xx

Hi kitty,I have an electric heat pad but haven't tried an electric blanket.I have a single one but have never used it but my bed is double, maybe I could try it.Ive never used heat for my headaches,I use that 4head stick or tiger balm.I think I might just give it a go as gins who is a volunteer on here mentioned it as well.It would be great to get some sleep during the day but my body won't switch off,but Iam lucky in that the dosulepin I take at night normally helps me sleep. But in saying that Iam still exhausted though! Xxx

Hi vintagerose - I hope you're not suffering too much today ?

I like your positive attitude ;-)

I've just completed attending a Fibro course - it's given us all a more positive attitude and 5 of us now meet up for coffee every month - brilliant knowing that you're not alone with this horrible syndrome : illness : whatever it is :-(

Take care

Tina
