..last night I came out the bathroom into the hallway and there he was coming towards me,,THE INTRUDER.... terrified I screamed and my partner came running to see what the problem was,but by that time the intruder had disappeared into the shadows ..... my partner said he was off to bed and I was imagining things, but as he had entered the bedroom I turned around and out of the shadows the intruder re_ appeared.... petrified I yelled for my partner who saw this intruder this time....there was a bit of a tussle.. but my partner swiftly placed a glass over the blighter, then placed a piece of card underneath ,I opened the door and my partner threw him outside...., yes boys and girls it's September... SPIDER TIME!!!...(I'm terrified of them!)...

Yes, I have a partner who's scared of spiders. Not nice for her, but gives me some amusement ;) I do the same - get them gently (also using the glass and paper technique), put them out the window and on their way :) Hope you've recovered. I know how my partner feels when she sees one :) xx

I hate spiders too especially the big ones that scuttle across the floor and under your feet!

I use the glass and paper method to rid of them and put them in the garden as far away from house as I can btu I swear to god they find their way back in and its not only in September I seem to have them all year round!!

Lol, ah yes, the autumnal house invader. We've had some super huge ones in already this year. They seem to have had a good year.

I don't mind smaller ones and those outside but get freaked by the very big ones, especially when the cats spot them. Rescuing it before they chow down is never fun, especially since both the spider and the cats can move faster than I can!

I don't like the big ones either and would like to be friendly to them.

When we moved into this house I was speaking with a friend on the phone when I caught sight of a dark shape scuttling across the floor (I'm mushroom like and have few lights on!). My friend screamed and told me to get it before she, a couple of hundred miles away(!), could put her feet back down on the floor! I thought I was bad!!!

I'd rather face ten human intruders than ONE spider, just the thought of them makes me shiver.

You had me worried too for a moment EJ. :D I used to be terrified of spiders, but somewhere along the line I became a bit more brave and I've worked out how to get them out of the room and outside without hurting them or me. I can't do the class and paper thing cos I'm worried the spider might make a run for it and end up on me, which would still send me silly, so I pop a sock over my hand so it covers my cuff (so it can't get up my sleeve) and then I gently take hold of said spider and pop it out of the already open window and onto the sill and pull the window shut toute suite, result happy me and spider taking fresh air.

Thanks for the chuckle though, it was very intriguing :-)

years ago when I was fit and healthy ,I lived in a bed-sit ,in a big old Victorian house ,I was friendly with most of the other tenants, but one night there was a giant spider in my room and I tried to be brave and catch it in a big plastic bowl but that didn't work it ran under my bed!!,so in a frantic panic I grabbed what I needed for the next day for work and booked in a cheap hotel overnight!!!... then the next night I had two of the other tenants in my room for a coffee and as I told them ,the spider ran across the floor ,fortunately |(for me not the spider ) it came into collision with one of the tenants size 10 boot!!!, so that was the end of boris the spider!!, I can't even pick up a dead one ......!! hate them really badly...!!!

We had the same massive (race-horse-like) one in last week... 3 nights in a row! yelled for my 13 year old daughter (Who is scared of nothing at that age.... oh to be a teenager again!) so she grabbed a pyrex mixing bowl... dark side of the moon (on vinyl) and took the blighter outside! only for the flipping thing to make its way back in the next night (she recognised it because it had a limp where she put the bowl on one of its legs!) anyway again I yelled at her cos it was right next to my side of the bed... it came in thru the open window! so by the time she came in with the album and bowl ready it had disappeared! we all sat on the bed til 1am and she spotted it on the landing up the by ceiling making its way to the upstairs loo... where it hides behind the toilet waiting for unsuspecting people to go in in the middle of the night half asleep... anyway she put it outside again and yup this time it came in thru the loo window... Son no.2 shouts out his big sisters name and she throws the bowl over it... she kept in her room as she had a feeling apparently! anyway by this time she got a bit annoyed that it wouldn't stay outside... so she stood on it! Proudly saying that she wasn't gonna put up with this sort of thing anymore lol.... She's my hero

i used to be the same. my hubby always came to the rescue... however he also beat me and slept with my best friend while i was pregnant so when i divorced him i learnt to deal with them myself. i since re married and did the same thing. went all girly and got a bit hysterical at them. new hubby was a sweetie and he dealt with them [and felt the gallant hero probably] he has since moved out for another women and i have now got three girls on my own...... [first baby is 27 now]

i have turned into the spider hunter.

i am calm [wow those acting skills are good] and i like the kids to see them [[inside the glass obviously]] and we are all very interested [not] and i am hoping that at least two of them will never need to get hysterical over the horrid crawly monsters. unfortunately one of them is totally beyond help in that direction and cant even enter our cellar for ice cream....but i haven't given up. its all about acting the part. and i act the part of a strong women who isnt afraid of spiders....

i haven't managed to convince myself yet but everyone else believes me..hahaha

i got on great with the biology teacher at secondary school who decided he would help me overcome my fear of spiders, he was very patient and taught me all there was to know aboutspiders which would help me find them really fascinating and thus disperse my fear , i did find everything fascinating, but did it help the fear? HELL NO!, .. i went to hypnotherapy, tried the technique the next time i saw one (as advised by hypnotherapist) did it help ? NO WAY ! (IT DIDN'T HELP FINANCIALLY EITHER!!) cost quite a bit of money for the hypnotherapy, so i guess that i will be a screamer when it comes to spiders til the day i die!!

Sounds exactly like me last night! I don't usually mind spiders, but I draw a line when they're 3inches across and jump!!!

Hubby just casually picked it up and threw it out the window lol x

I feel your pain....I've been phobic all my life and at 58 it's still the same. Every year around this time I'm terrified, day and night, it's always on my mind. I dread the bathroom in the morning, the bedroom at night, the living room when it goes dark. If it rains my fear increases. I've tried, therapy, hypnotism but nothing works, I look for them everywhere and sure enough I find them. I've put out conkers, used sprays and plug ins but still they come in. I've got a cat now and she does at least keep the numbers down, I often find the remains, only slightly better than the living, breathing, terrifying, eight legged horrors that take over my life for the next couple of months. Eeeeeeek

HI ELECTRICJAWS OUR HOUSE IS LIKE THE ADAMS FAMILY HA HA .WE USE A SPIDER PLUG.IT WORKS.TRY IT.

electricjaws profile image

HI RIBBONPINK,unfortunately I can't try one of those plugs as it also deters mice and rats, so the frequency that is used to disorient the spiders and rodents is going to freak my poor little hamster ( horatio) out!!

LOL

My other half is very protective of any spiders in the house. I keep telling him that they are pooping all over the window cills. He thinks i'm a meany for gleefully sucking them up in the hoover! I'm not that scared of spiders as I am a gardener and used to bugs and slimy things.

Oh dear :( I guess that means that I'm the only one who isn't scared of spiders. There was a huge one in my hallway the other day. It was so big I took a pic of it. I just gently scoop them up in my hands, careful not to squash them and put them outside. Perhaps I should change my profile name to "The Spider Catcher" :))

Hi Coz im glad to say im not scared of spiders either. its lucky as my partner graham is terrified of them! My 6 & 7 year old grandsons who live with me used to hate them too but now the 7y old josh is the chief spider catcher! Unless they are huge then its up to me to gently capture it whichever way i can then let it go in my garden. Doesnt bother me n the slightest!

Love chilli xx

My late ex husband was a strapping 6 foot tall man. When he found a spider in the house he wouldn't move until I went up to catch it :))

He said Oh I heard the screaming, and came and got it out we made him take it to the top of the other road before letting it go!!!!

I still shudder thinking about them x
