The Prescription Prepayment Certificate Information

Information Re-posted (copied & pasted from Lindsey Middlemiss Chair & Founder of FibroAction) as a reminder and in conjunction with the new post about Prescription Cost increase as from April 1st 2015

Did you know you can save money with a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC)?

If you know you’ll have to pay for a lot of NHS prescriptions it may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) – effectively a prescription 'season ticket'. A PPC covers you for all of your own NHS prescriptions, including dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need (NHS Choices page - as of 05/04/15)

If you're struggling to pay for your medications, check out this information:

Even if you cannot get prescriptions for free, a Prescription Prepayment Certificate will save you money if you need 4 or more items in three months or 15 or more items in 12 months.

Please be aware the PPC may increase in cost due to the Prescription cost rise April 1st 2015 (I will aim to keep you posted)

Free prescriptions

You may also be eligible for free prescriptions. Check here:

ww.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/Prescriptioncosts.aspx

Note that you are eligible for free prescriptions if you have a continuing physical disability that prevents you from going out without help from another person (even though Fibro is not on the list of medical exemption conditions), and have a valid medical exemption certificate (MedEx). How to get a MedEx is described on the link below:

Despite a promise from the last Government, prescriptions are not being made free for all people with long-term health conditions. The Prescription Charges Coalition, of which Fibromyalgia Action UK a member, is campaigning for free prescriptions for all people with long-term health conditions. For more info about how you can help campaign, see here:

Please can you consider signing to show your support of this campaign if you feel as strongly as we do;

I had one until I discovered I could get exemption. I was appalled my healthcare team never mentioned exemption despite promising advice on management. My daughter has MS and has to pay :(

I gather only 10% pay anyway. the high users are children and elderly who are exempt by age. I've often wondered at the logistics of collecting the remaining charges

Thank you so much for this information, I can genuinely imagine that it will really help many of the members. I have mine and pay by monthly direct debit.

Thank you
