Does anyone else suffer from painful periods, I'm 46 and the past couple of months have experienced really painful, heavy periods, my gp has prescribed mefenamic acid to take during periods but i recently read on a web page that women with fibro can experience painful heavy periods. I have been diagnosed with fibro since 2009. Xx

Hello, in ansere to your question yes painful periods are common in fibro. I suffered from them myself untill I underwent a minor procedure called an emdometrial Ablation It worked really well for me. You can find out more on the NHS Choices web site sue
Hi wincoupe, I had horrendous periods - my monthlies were fortnightlies at one point. After trying several treatments such as the mefenamic & transenamic, (query spelling!) acid, I finally started another type of the Pill, Cerazette, which stopped my periods completely. They have stopped for about 5-6 years now. Couldn't have the ablation due to my weight probs. Hope this helps, Julie xxx
yes they were awful, and as I bleed so much meant I had iron problems as well. Get an appointment with a specialist, there are things that can be done to help.
Hi wincoupe
Yes I do!! and was prescribed tranexamic acid to take while having my period it slows it down making it less heavy and painful but bleed for a day or two longer. I had read about the connections between period problems and fibro too, I've had period problem like this in excess of 18yrs but am seeing a gynae in April about it (I'm 40).
Pain consultant and the Rheumatologist couldn't gauge how long I'd had Fibro for when diagnosed last March but it looks like well in excess of 18yrs
Like Jacqueline I have iron store problems as well and regularly have to take iron tablets I don't like them very much they make me constipated which Irks my IBS and then the Fibro
I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today?
I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering in this way, and although I, as a man, do not have the insight of experience of this sort of thing. I sincerely wanted to wish you all the best and hope that you can find some resolution and relief to your issue.
Hi Wincoupe I am 47 and my periods went horrendous just before they stopped. I was told just before i turned 40 that I was showing signs of early menopause. My periods stopped early last year, thank god, as I don't think I could have coped with how bad they had got. Good Luck x
Yes, always had painful periods, bad abdominal cramps from anything from two weeks before and heavy bleeding. I'm 55 this year, can't wait for them to stop!
