I am 28 and my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I am overweight (not hugely) and have PCOS. Period comes every month but between 28-40 day cycle. Making more time for trying (stressful job!) but any other tips would be useful! Thankyou in advance...

If you have been trying to get pregnant for a while, it might be an idea to ask your GP to refer you to a fertility specialist for advice and possible treatment. Having such an irregular menstrual cycle will probably mean that your ovulation times are very irregular too, which possibly could be regulated with the use of certain medications. Meanwhile, just make sure you are having regular intercourse to ensure that your tubes are “primed” with a regular supply of sperm, in order to “catch” an egg when you do ovulate. This of course would also depend upon your tubes being clear, if you are ovulating and that your husband/partner’s sperm is OK.
I am certain that you are doing everything that you can to lose weight, but whatever you are doing, whether at a slimming club or on your own, make sure that you are keeping a record of your losses, however small, so that you can prove you are trying. A practice nurse at your GP practice would weigh you and keep a record too, if you don’t want to join a slimming club. Swimming, if possible, is good too. If you can afford to attend one of these fitness centres, then speak to one of the advisors. He/she will be able to help you with your diet requirements and also the correct exercising that you require.
