Missed periods with pcos

New to this, not really sure what I'm doing to be honest but I have nobody else to mention this to really. So in April 2020 we decided to start trying for a baby in June 2021 I found out I have pcos and the fertility doctors told me in July 2021 to lose weight. Since may 2022 I have not missed a period at all even if they've been a bit irregular, until now, I am 2 weeks late, negative pregnancy tests. It's so deflating, my doctors won't help because I haven't managed to lose the weight and it's affecting my mental health so much

I’m sorry, in my experience drs have always been really unhelpful when it comes to pcos. Really mine only want to know when it gets to the 3 month mark because then they can prescribe Norethisterone or similar to bring a bleed on. The only thing I’ve ever found that even vaguely regulated my cycle was myo inositol. You have to take a high dose and it’s pricey but might be worth looking into xx

Yeah they just don't seem to care, especially as I'm overweight it's infuriating, I think I actually have some in my cupboard I'll have to look x

My experience has been the same with drs and pcos I’m afraid. Lose weight is their go to and it’s so frustrating and unfair! When I was thinner, I was just thinner with absent periods not magically fertile!

I had tried myo insitol too on the advice of my consultant as it has performed well and like metformin in studies about promoting ovulation. oh and I took a prenatal tablet with b12 which lots of women with pcos struggle with too. I think these helped a bit too.

I did have to lose some weight for Ivf and I found having my thyroid testing helped! My results were completely out which doesn’t help with losing weight at all but taking a small dose of levothyroxine really helped with that.

Best of luck x

Yes yes yes to you first paragraph! I’m a bit overweight now but for years was much thinner, like a size 10 and guess what, no periods and infertile then too. It makes me so cross that lose weight is their big (and often only) solution.

it genuinely makes me feel cross too! so many times I felt fobbed off by the doctors when in reality, women with higher bmis get pregnant and have babies all the time! I was about 8 stone when diagnosed in my early 20s so definitely wouldn’t have benefited from losing weight then!! Grrr!!!
