I am in the same position. For the fisrt week i was distraught. I was angry and upset, i felt like the doctor was fobbing me off.. He probably is as i know many over weight friends and family who have a baby.. Anyway..
Then i got angry.. Not only at the nhs but myself for giving up.
So i have joined weight watchers.. Not the fastest method of loosing weight i grant you, however it works i have lost 1 stn 1/2 in 8 weeks. So I have another 2stn to go but im confiendent.. So my point is... Please dont give up!
Im going to prove my so called 'specialist' wrong loose this weight then get the help we as women struggling to have a baby deserve. No one should ever make you feel like its your fault.
Good luck and im here for support anytime you need!
Hello Saz what an amazing person u r, i have joined weight watchers am hoping this helps. I have a whopping 4 stone to loose. I have friends that are even bigger then me but still manage to have children which is what is really getting to me.
I just wish there was more support for ladies who are on the large size as just because im big dose not mean i don't deserve to have any help.
So sorry to hear that you are feeling rejected because you have a weight problem. I’m afraid that gone are the days when it was not such an issue. Unfortunately, if you are attending an NHS clinic/hospital – for any illness or complaint – not just infertility issues, then they are bound by the “NICE Guidelines and PCT contracts” re patients’ BMI. The reason is just that it makes it easier for the doctor to carry out procedures, plus safer for yourself and baby during pregnancy – plus should you need a general anaesthetic.
I am certain that you are doing everything that you can to lose weight, but whatever you are doing, whether at a slimming club or on your own, make sure that you are keeping a record of your losses, however small, so that you can prove you are trying. A practice nurse at your GP practice would weigh you and keep a record too, if you don’t want to join a slimming club. Swimming, if possible, is good too. If you can afford to attend one of these fitness centres, then speak to one of the advisors. He/she will be able to help you with your diet requirements and also the correct exercising that you require.
Obviously, you could contact a few private clinics – or email them, to see if they would be willing to treat you. There is no easy solution to weight problems though, as I well know! Just keep chipping away at the weight loss and I am sure you will get to acceptable limits.
I agree completley with you, priorities need looking at and doctors need to stop making excuses.. I wish you luck, its taking a while but im getting there.. You can do it too.. Were all amazingly strong people we have to be to go through this. I alway keep the image of me holding my baby in my head, that keeps me going.. If you need any help or advice im here anytime.. My no. 1 for weight loss is dont give anything up, just cut the portion size. Honestly hun it works.. Saz Xx
That is a really emotional image in my head i often have dreams on what our child would look like.I have been on ww just under a week so will do everything i can to get rid of this weight and prove everyone wrong. x
Morning All i have recently been told the same thing about not being funded on the NHS after trying the course for over a year. HE mentioned my age, weight and my partner having children which is so unfair considering their no mine. I felt really upset especially when i see bigger women than me having children. Its also the way he said it i feel like i had wasted my time when they knew what the outcome would be.
just reading the posts above gives me a little hope and i feel i will also write to my MP.
