“Considering Laparoscopic Surgery Before IVF: Is It Beneficial?”

Hello, I recently had 2 failed embryo transfers. The doctor suggested me to go for laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis.

Is undergoing laparoscopic surgery to remove the lesions be beneficial before starting IVF treatment?

Do you have any experience with it that I can see?

Thank you X

My husband and I paid private for my lap after two failed transfers for endometriosis and it made no difference to subsequent cycles.

My friend has stage 4 endo that is invading her bowel. She didn’t bother with surgery.. had one cycle and got pregnant on her 3rd transfer. She gave birth last week.

I personally wouldn’t bother.. you can do down regulation before transfer to supress any endo before transfer. x

I did it before my FET. I think the procedure is useful to check for multiple conditions: endometriosis, infections (endometritis), uterine fibroids/polyps and Hydrosalpinx. Would highly recommend in addition to PGT testing in case of multiple miscarriages.

Ah ok!! Thank you!

personally in 6 years I never had a positive test, even with down regulation and 2 transfers. Had endo excision surgery and have fallen pregnant twice in 6 months - sadly both miscarriages but egg quality is my issue. I highly recommend PGTA. Good luck.

Ps it’s important you have excision and a very good surgeon. Happy to share the details of mine x

Thank you! May I know what was your AMH? Does it affect AMH? My AMH is low already!

in reply toAhaly

It only effects your AMH is they remove an Endometrioma. I haven’t had mine checked since my op but I was low for my age before! (Can’t remember exactly) x

I don’t have any advice but I am in a similar situation. Both of my fresh transfers both ending in chemicals. I don’t have a my follow up for a few weeks with my consultant but debating whether I need to go ahead with the surgery before another transfer. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer unfortunately!

I know! May I ask what is your AMH? Mine is 1. Which is low comparatively

Mine is 9.3pmol/L which is lower end for my age. One of the reasons I’m a bit hesitant about more surgery!
