I’ve just been for my first scan and what should be 6 weeks but there was an empty sac with sac measuring 5 weeks and 5 days. Are there any success stories out there?
NB: I had my transfer a bit late at cycle day 22 and tested negative on day 10 post transfer but hcg levels were only at 22. On 16 day post transfer I had hcg checked again and it was at 177. Should I be worried or could this just a be a late implantation and things could change when I go for next scan in a week

hi esmaya, i just wanted to message and say how sorry i am that you are in this difficult awful limbo period, it really is horrible. I hope you have good support around you. Can your clinic do more bloods for you, ti save you waiting a week, the waiting realky us torture X
hello. I am so sorry to hear. This could go either way. This happened to me a few years ago, the HCG did double nicely but at 7 weeks there was no flicker in the sac. Therefore a non viable pregnancy which was medically removed. A friend (non ivf) had an empty sac at 6 weeks they didn’t do a blood test. She went in at 7 weeks for a scan to check if the miscarriage had occurred and found a heartbeat instead. The difference is with natural cycles - dates could be wrong no such luck with IVF though - your dates are your dates… hope this is helpful x
I'm so sorry to hear about your scan results. It can be really unsettling, especially when you're eager to see everything progressing as expected. It's not uncommon for implantation to occur a bit later than usual, which can affect the timing of when you see a fetal pole or heartbeat on a scan. Given that your HCG levels increased significantly between day 10 and day 16 post-transfer, it suggests that the embryo was indeed implanting and growing, just perhaps a bit slower than anticipated.
However, it's also important to acknowledge that things can go either way. Sometimes, an empty sac can indicate a potential issue, and it's essential to be prepared for any outcome. But for now, try to focus on the positive possibilities and the fact that you have another scan coming up soon. It's a tough wait, but it's not uncommon for things to look different at the next scan. Sending you lots of positive thoughts and hoping for the best outcome at your next appointment. xx
It is really unsettling but I just pray it’s late implantation and things do change for the better at next scan. Thank you so much for taking time to reply to me
I'm so sorry to read this - it's a really 50/50 situation.
I had similar when I had an empty sac at 6+4 (and sac showing a week behind) - at 7+4 there had been some growth but it was still a week behind, at 8+4 no more growth so a confirmed mmc. I think if you're a 6 weeks but showing as 5+5 there is still hope. It could still be a bit too early too - I know a lot of clinics won't scan until 7 weeks because there can be so much ambiguity at this early stage.
What I would say though is the HCG levels aren't an indicator of this - so a repeat blood test won't tell you anything. Unfortunately you just have to wait for another scan.
Thanks for the reply sweetheart, and I’m sorry you had to go through this situation. Yes clinic have explained hcg levels will not be a good indicator and just went for scan next week
Hi Esmaya - I am sorry I don’t have any success stories but this happened to me too so please don’t feel like you’re alone. Sending you lots of good luck and I really hope you get great news at your next scan xx
