Time between Prostrap injection and bleed

Hi,

I have recently had Prostrap (on my Day 21) for down regulation and am waiting for my bleed to start. I was told it takes 7 days but I’m day 8 and it hasn’t started yet. Has anyone got experience of taking it and how long did it take you? I’ve just found some NHS clinic advice that says if you have an irregular cycle it should be given on day 2 and not Day 21 as it may take 2 weeks to bring on a bleed for these women but wasn’t told this at the time (and this would apply to me as I have PCOS).

Just trying to work out how likely it is I will have a bleed before my scan next Friday and worried it will mess up this cycle.

Many thanks x

Hi, I just had this.. took prostap on 20th Dec and it took 13 days for my period to come, (the clinic were adamant it's wasn't the injection) but it must be as I am normally regular. on day 8 they put me on progesterone pessarys to induce the bleed and when I stopped taking them I can on. Have the clinic advised if they would do this? I was really worried my cylce would be cancelled, but they said the prostap shuts everything down for about 4 weeks m- so hopefully it will be ok. speak to ur clinic and see what they say, in all my notes it said if you haven't come on by day 12 then to contact them x

Hi Pink090,

Thanks your reply 🙂 You know what it’s like they describe everything in certainties “it will be around Day 7 post injection” but obviously all our bodies are unique and don’t often follow the rule book! I feel a lot better knowing it takes some people a little longer. I think if I haven’t started by Day 11 post injection I’m going to contact them as it may just mean they have to just move my scan slightly further back. I feel like my body is slowly gearing up to a bleed just have no idea when!

Best of luck wherever you are on your journey.X

yes guess it's hard as no body is same, but I only got relief from either this forum or my clinics Facebook page I think. trying to remain calm but I am taking estrogen now and having a scan on 21st Jan to see what's happening and if ok to go for transfer. hope your period comes soon.. happy for you to inbox me if you need anything else xx

Hi there, each time I had prostap my period came about 16 days later. Felt like a really long wait! Like Pink090 said, prostap lasts for 4 weeks so my clinic were happy to wait (I think once or twice they got me in for a scan anyway) but just said if it doesn't come before the prostap wears off they'd give me some other medication to induce the period. So try not to worry but it is frustrating.... the one time you do want your period it takes ages to arrive 🙃 xx

Thanks for your message BlueEyedTabby,

I always find waiting for all the treatment to start is one of the most anxious part as we spend so much time waiting. The messages have made me realise it may just take my body a little longer but it shouldn’t stop this cycle and if all else fails there are other options to help 🙂

Many thanks for the reassurance and best of luck on your journey to. X

Hi BenjitheG, I am prescribed Zoladex for down reg, last time it took. 15 days to bleed and this time 12 days, yet the clinic said ua bleed usually happens between 7-10 days (Zoladex and Prostap are similar). I think key here is it's really variable person to person and as I've just discovered variable bin one person lol. Best wishes.

Thanks for all the reassurance everyone it really helped me not stress about it. I started today (Day 11 post injection) so just checking if I need to move my scan slightly. X
