Hi, I found out i am pregnant from a home pregnancy test. i started to bleed (Few drops of blood) in the 6th week. I panicked and went to emergency gynae unit they sent me back home and said i should come back if the bleeding is heavy or if it lasts for 7 days.
Bleeding/spotting turned from red to brown the next day there were some brown strings as well and then it stopped so i was releived. But yesterday i had vaginal spotting again and now brown discharge on the tissue when i wipe with brown string once. I am 7 weeks now. I have booked a private scan next monday to know the reason because emergency gynae unit says its common and there is no need for scans/test and i should do the pregnancy test again after 10 days.
I have had a miscarriage 5 years back its my second time so i get very upset. Has anyone experienced bleeding/spotting during early pregnancy?
Hello LunazMommy, I am in a similar position. I have been having brown discharge in my crinone applicator for the last 2 weeks. I had a scan at 6 weeks 4 days and again at 7 weeks 1 day (my clinic is in another country and my doctor wasn’t around for the first scan so I ended up having two). All was fine and we saw the heartbeat both times. The doctor wasn’t concerned by the discharge but it totally freaks me out especially after having spotting followed by a miscarriage in January. I’m just telling myself both times it’s the crinone and the miscarriage was something else and not related to the spotting or discharge. I did end up with a big bleed at 6 weeks 5 days first time around and miscarriage confirmed a few days later. I can’t even bring myself to be pleased I’ve got to 8 weeks 1 day with no bleed this time incase thinking the best brings on the worst. I’m having another scan on Thursday as the doctor said getting over 8 weeks and seeing a heartbeat usually means everything will be ok. Hope the spotting is just progesterone related for us both. It’s so hard to know and we just have to wait which is the absolute worst! Wishing you all the best 🙏
Yes, I’ve experienced a few drops of dark brown blood during the 2ww then brown spotting until my 6 week viability scan (all good, saw the heartbeat). 2 days later I had a heavy red bleeding with big clots, went to the a&e, they referred me to the EPU (early pregnancy unit) where they scanned me and baby was still doing well, just found a big haematoma. After that it continued with brown bleeding as it wasn’t just a few drops to call it spotting, and I needed a panty liner, and the baby is still doing great at 8 weeks yet the haematoma is reducing. Clearly by coming out. So I’ve been told it will take probably past 12 weeks to completely disappear and they prescribed me with extra progesterone for weeks 12-16.
So if you don’t have any intense cramping, you’re probably fine. I had a chemical last year at week 4-5 and it felt like baaaad period cramps, where I had to hold my belly and apply heat patches, whereas when I had this heavy red bleeding during this pregnancy I just had some discomfort.
Other reasons you know already probably. Vaginal pessaries can irritate the cervix so use it rectally, intercourse can irritate it as well or any applicators you use. Progesterone itself can cause vaginal bleeding as a side effect (that’s what it says on my Lubion leaflet). Or I’ve seen on forums that the uterus can also get micro tears and bleed from those. Who knows…
You did the right thing to go to the emergency unit, but I’d recommend trying the early pregnancy unit instead that are usually walk-in’s and particularly set up for concerns like bleeding during early pregnancy. Best of luck! Xx
I had the same exact thing happen to me. Went in for an emergency scan at 6 weeks and baby was totally fine. My re couldn’t find anything to cause bleeding and told me that it’s quite common in ivf pregnancies. My brown spotting lasted weeks 6-8 and completely stopped at week 9. I’m now 11 weeks. It’s so nerve racking but stay strong!
