Hi,

We had our 7th transfer of 2 embryos and tested positive on 24/06.

On 01/07 I started lightly spotting did a HPT and still showing positive on digital and non digital tests.

Spotting has continued. Spots on pads of brown 🟤 wiping brown but it's continued for days with positive tests.

I've decided to stop testing and wait until the scan on 18/07. The clinic have told me there's nothing they can do until that point.

I need a success story for similar spotting. It's driving me INSANE. I've taken this week of work, expecting the worst on the 18th but want to remain hopeful.

I had this with both successful pregnancies, it stopped around 12 weeks…..when I stopped cyclogest 🙄 xx

Ah that's reassuring. I'm on prontogest it's so so nerve wracking. Thanks for writing back. I just needed some reassurance x

Hi. So sorry its such a worrying time isn't it I'm 21dp5dt today. Have you asked your GP for hcg test maybe have 2 see what's happening with your bloods? Good luck and sending lots of strength your way x

None of the clinicians I've spoken to have offered anything like a blood test. They said HCG can stay with you even after the pregnancy has ended. They've said the only way is to scan x

It will drop or stay stable though not increase which is an indicator. I go to my GP get a blood form and take it up to the hospital it's the only way for me to reign in being on the crazy train. Choo choo

I could ask I suppose. Thanks

This is BS. They can track with 2 HCG tests, 2 days apart, and see if increase is as it should be.

If your clinic and GP will not do thus, you can attend your early pregnancy unit as you're spotting. Ask GP for referral or Google where itvis and the referral process (mine is self referral).

The clinic are correct in saying they cannot 'do' anything I.e. change outcome but, if it would help you, there are ways to find out what is going on sooner.

No worries!

Clinics etc say this as, for them, it's not a big event (people don't die and there's nothing they can do to change outcome).

But, that doesn't change that there is a human at the end of it who wants to know what is going on in their body!

Spotting does mean a myriad of things, so much as to be almost meaningless as a symptom (because it doesn't pint to any one or two possible outcomes). But if you want to know, this can be done via HCG blood tests showing the tend of increase over a period of time , normally 48hrs.

You maybe may not find that knowledge helpful, but you should get to decide what you do or do not know when, if it's possible to know (which, in this case, it is)

I've called my clinic and been pretty clear that I know a blood test can be done.. thank you 🙏

Good for you and no worries at all.

It's a horribly vulnerable yome. I'm sorry you, and all if us, have to advocate for yourself within it.

Just an update to say my clinic don't offer bloods. They said as I'm 6 weeks next week they may be able to offer an earlier scan but that would be up to the doctor's - they are going to phone me Monday to see how things are.. it definitely feels like after 5 days the spotting is settling but who knows if I still have my pregnancy. The EPU will be able to help next week too. I'm resisting the urge to do a HPT and hoping the clinic will just scan next week x

If you're concerned, I'd definitely check in with your EPU.

They'll scan and blood test, and test again 2 days later, assuming service is standard(ish) across nhs.

You can find yours here:

I've had bleeding which was just due to my hormones/progesterone (I take the pessaries monthly) and that was something. So, it's not always anything to be concerned about by any means and scans only show so much, it's a snapshot in time. But, they can be reassuring.

Hope you have a restful weekend.

It can be normal and harmless especially early on. To an extent there's not much the clinic can do save maybe adjust the meds (like progesterone - that's what stopped the bleeding/spotting for me) but nothing I don't think if it's a problem with the embryo sadly. While you're waiting for your scan you can get hcgs done as that will tell you pretty definitely if it's viable - it's not the number itself but whether it's roughly doubling every 2/3 days. You can get progesterone done at the same time just to check you're absorbing it properly. Clinics often do these tests, or you can ask your GP, or go private, or there are online labs but these can be a fews days delayed getting results as they have to post the kit and you have to post it back.

Me here 🤣. I had spotting from very early on up to 12 weeks. The colour varied from brown trough red to pink. Apparently this is extremely common with IVF pregnancy. I had two additional scan up to 12 weeks there was never found the cause of bleeding. They put it down to progesterone witch made more blood circulation in my cervix. I always took cyclogest back way. Currently 23 weeks pregnant

Thank you. I think I'm half torn between knowing that progesterone can cause bleeding and I've got nothing to worry about. Then the devil is saying progesterone can delay a miscarriage blah blah blah. Thanks for replying it does mean a lot and immgoing to hang in there until next week and hopefully they will see me at 6 weeks x

Hi just wanted to update but unfortunately at 6 weeks we did have a miscarriage all tests returned negative and I had a full bleed. We are holding hope that after 7 transfers we did get pregnant. We are going straight into another transfer and we are following the same protocol plus some probiotics fingers crossed x
