(sensitive for some) Anxiety before the First Ultrasound

I have always managed to be totally fine 2-3 days until the test/scans! I have my first scan on Thursday (5wk 6days) and Anxiety has taken over. And how!

I don’t know what to expect! What if nothing is there? Should I expect a Heart beat -yes or no?

My clinic did not order hcg tests after the second, so I’ve been on the wait for more than a week now… driving myself nuts since morning and I assume it’s going to only get worse as I await the scan…. Any helpful signs/tips to keep me sane?

PS. I have almost no symptoms still except horrendous fatigue.

Only thing that works for me is ignorance. I didn’t think about it unless in brief moments of letting myself imagine the words “there’s a heartbeat”. I know maybe others find it harder to block it out. 😪

I am trying so hard. Keeping busy but it keeps popping. I guess I just want to know for sure everything is ok there because I don’t have any symptoms either so find it so hard to believe. I sometimes totally forget and need to remind myself!

I hope it all goes well- it's too early to defo hear a heartbeat . With my little boy I had sac and yolk at this stage and very small fetal pole (which they were very happy with). Amd my HCG was through the roof by that point >20k before 5 weeks. It wasn’t until 6.5 weeks there was a heartbeat and proper measurable fetal pole. 7-8 weeks scans are best to ensure a good idea of what’s going on but I had early scans due to heavy bleeding so they are still helpful to make sure sac is in the right place etc but can cause worry if you are expecting to see more than that so just wanted to prepare you 🤗💜 xx

Thank you! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 it’s been such a tough journey getting here that no one prepares you for what’s next. I am totally clueless and with no symptoms , it’s even worse. I am scared , so much..

It's very early to have a scan so you may not see much. My first we saw a heartbeat that early but that had been a very early implanter and the HCG had been rising quickly for a while, whereas my second was at over 6wks and they could only see a sac, not much else and just that it was in the right place - two weeks later we saw a heartbeat and that was a hard 2 weeks. So just be ready to only have it confirmed there so something in the right place and that you may be asked to come back for a repeat a couple of weeks later, anything else is a bonus. If the HCG results were good that's promising but you don't have to have them done at your clinic - I had them done through my GP and privately (online lab) as they've always given me an accurate picture of what's going on.

Thank you! I am trying to understand this part of the process as no one prepares you. After so many years of trying, I’m now back to being a newbie as I am clueless. This is very unnerving and I don’t know what to expect or prep for.

It’s a good idea to test privately, I will check for places near where I stay. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
