Problems Conceiving - First Ultrasound

Hi, I went to the doctors back in October as we've been ttc with no luck for over a year. I've had blood tests which came back fine and my husband has had a sperm test, which also came back fine. I've got an ultrasound next week and just wondering what to expect in terms of what they might find? Thanks in advance.

I had a pelvic ultrasound on the NHS they checked for major structural abnormalities and measured my lining, they found a fibroid but wouldn’t count my follicles. At a private fertility clinic they counted my antral follicles which gives a good indication of egg reserves. Good luck! X

Thank you so much - that's really helpful. With the NHS one, did you get your results there and then?

I think they told me there and then and sent a letter to my consultant at the time. I remember I had to go with a full bladder they scanned me then I had to go empty my bladder and they did an internal scan too x

Hi Sarah. I think they'll be looking at your ovaries, womb, and tubes to check your follicles, womb lining, and for abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids (I don't really know what those are!), cysts, scarring, and blockages. There's probably other things they are looking for, but these are the main things I remember being discussed.

Thank you so much - I just feel a bit less nervous if I know what I might hear. Did you get the results there and then or did you have to go to your GP?

They told us at the time what their thoughts/findings were, but also sent a letter detailing this.

They will check for polyps, cysts, endometriosis. The ultrasound does not check for blocked Fallopian tubes - to check for this you have to get a hycosy where they inject ink through a cathedral into your v. I got all mine done privately as I didn’t want to wait for the nhs appointment but I know they do the same in NHS.

Sorry not endometriosis but fibroids...I think in extreme cases they can see some signs of endo through ultrasound

Hey Sarah! I hope you are doing well. So you are having a hard time conceiving. That's something i have had a hard time with for 10 years. But things got better for me because of surrogacy. As you have said there's nothing wrong in blood tests and your husband's sperm test then maybe there's something else. I just hope nothing's wrong, but even if it is, just be strong. It's important for you to be patient and strong to get through this. I hope things work out for you. Just don't give up. Good luck! Sending baby dust to you. Take care. Bye!

Hey Sarah! How are you? So you are worried about that. I am not much of an expert in this, but according to your post i can say that maybe something's wrong. I am not trying to demotivate you but sometimes even a little thing can make a huge problem. I just hope everything is good. Nothing much to worry about, just don't stress over it. Pray and keep calm, everything will work out eventually. I have had both my babies through IVF, so don't let anything stop you from keep going as well. Nothing is impossible in this modern world now. Just focus on yourself for now and think positive. Good luck. Take care. Bye!

Hey there! I hope you are doing good Sarah. I am surprised that just after one year you are that nervous. It took me 5 years to realize that something is wrong with me. But i am glad that you are finally looking into it. This will lead you to less struggle and more happiness. The ultrasound will tell you about your uterus, ovaries and endo lining. It can also help you in finding out if the fallopian tubes are blocked. But it depends on the type of ultrasound you have opted for. Don't worry everything will be alright. Maybe you are just not doing it right. Hold yourself together and just pray. I will pray for you as well. Good luck hon! Take care.
