Brown spotting

I had an internal ultrasound at my clinic on Wednesday, scan showed I'm 7 weeks 6 days with a good heartbeat. Thursday and Friday evenings I had a small amount of brown blood, I'm hoping it's as a result of the ultrasound, just wondering if anyone experienced anything similar? I called gp out of hours yesterday for advice and they said could be early signs of miscarriage and I could either go get checked out in hospital or keep an eye on things, figured if it was a miscarriage nothing they could do to stop it so I stayed home for now.

hello! I had exactly the same after my first scan at five weeks. I had brown discharge and a tiny bit of red spotting about two days later. I rang the midwife helpline and she reassured me that it was very normal after an ultrasound because the cervix was ultra sensitive in pregnancy. It cleared up for me after that and things are looking good a few weeks on.

I hope this reassures you in the meantime, of course it’s worth calling the midwife and getting a medical opinion to be sure x

Thank you. It does reassure me a bit. I don't have a midwife to call yet, I've got my first appointment with one on Thursday, but I might call the gp on Monday and see what they say.x

That sounds like a good plan. Early pregnancy is so fraught with anxiety, I wonder if it ever goes away!

I know right! No one ever warns you about how horribly anxious a time it is!x

I had brown spotting and some blood after my ultrasound scan at 7 weeks too. Mine turned out to be a blood sac that had ruptured - apparently they are common in IVF pregnancies (especially if it was a FET) and does not affect the baby. I just had my 12 week scan and baby is still there with a heartbeat. I know it's hard not to think the worst in these situations - my heart sank when I saw the spotting. If you're worried, call your early pregnancy unit at your hospital. Mine squeezed me in for a scan and it gave me the reassurance I needed. Good luck! X

Thank you. Glad everything's OK for you. I keep changing my mind if I need the reassurance or not. One minute I tell myself everything's OK and that it was bleeding from the scan, the next I think no I need to make sure. X

Hi. Its quite common in a normal early pregnancy. However if you want to rule things out, there's no harm in getting it checked. I personally always side with the caution. All the best!

Hi there ! I had similar experience around week 7( brown discharge) and red spotting during week 8. I was so scared, didn't had painful cramps or it didn't stain the pad afterwards. I went in for a scan and everything was okay, they discovered a small size sub chorionic hematoma. I am over 9 weeks now, have all symptoms and occasional very dark brown Discharge, it's very little like some old dirty blood is out. I will be going in for a scan in 2 days. I hope if you don't experience severe cramping, and bleeding enough to soak a liner no need to worry. Have you made an appointment yet? I know it's scary but pls hang in there.

Thanks. The spotting seems to have stopped now, but I still phoned in sick to work today and called the gp this morning. Just waiting on them to do their triage thing and get back to me. X
