Hi, they have told me the same thing, that my left ovary is behind my uterus. She didn’t seem worried and said they may still be able to access it at egg collection. I’d be interested to hear if there was a way to move it!

Aah that’s good! I had a scan this morning and it’s now partially accessible. They think it will be ok for egg collection 🙂

My left ovary was much higher than my right but on two collections it 'dropped' by the end of stims with the swelling and weight of stimulated follicles, anf they said it was easy to get to. So that's a possibility. On my last collection they told me at one scan my left ovary was behind my uterus, another time that it was sitting on it and fused (the latter was very worrying!). That collection they got the stims wrong and I only got one egg (from the right) but the ovary access didn't seem to have been an issue. Mine seem to be able to move a lot!

Wonderful news! And very happy it helped when you were worried - I feel like I've had quite few things not go to plan over all my rounds, so happy to share anything I can. Good luck for the collection!

I’ve had 5 egg collection and since the second one they started to tell me my right ovary irs too high and not accessible but in all ivf they accessed it right and collected eggs just in second round it was a new dr and she claimed she is very skilled and withouting discussing it with me in middle of egg collection decided to go on abdomen with a special needle for the right one! I had such a sharp unbeaten pain I yelled despite the sedation and that was the only ivf from 10-12 follicles seen on last scan begore trigger they collected 5 only 3 mature snd fertilized but non proceeded to blasts so thT cycle turned to no frozen embryos! I am still very upset abt 20k and lots of time and drug went to waste, i had an incident on same day after egg collecting when transferred me to recovery sth similar to a water broke before labour happend to me and lots of water poured on the floor. They were shocked abd dr came to exam me but then they said it was nothing! And they didn’t even included that into my file so when I talked to my own doc 2 weeks later he said nothing is documented and it was probably urine! VS I distinguish between water and urine the color and smell was totally different more like water. I am pretty sure it happend bcuzzof her niddle to my abduprobably a cyst burst or some follies ruined.

Anyways it wasn’t a pleasant expeydoing an egg collection from top not intra vaginal so I don’t recommend doing it but apparently it is a way of collection done for unaccessabile ovary in some places.

I hope yours turn out right like my other 3 ivfs thry said that during scans the technicians but dr collected eggs on the day of Retreival without any problem.

My left ovary is positioned above and behind my uterus meaning it is difficult to view on scans. I too was worried that this may affect egg retrieval. Fortunately I’ve had 3 successful egg retrievals - this ovary has been accessed via the uterine wall rather than the standard approach via the vaginal wall. I’ve not experienced any complications from this.

Wishing you good luck!

Same for me! They’ve always accessed it without any issues as I’m under general anaesthetic so they can go via the uterus.

ovaries definitely move about all the time, especially when there are follicles growing. When I went for my scan 2 days ago, the nurse told me my right ovary was really far over. She was struggling to get the angle with the camera so I offered to stick my leg out further (so I was practically doing the splits) so she would find the ovary. There was nothing for me to rest my leg on out there so I just had to hold it there while she counted & measured. The nurse said “Hmm Pilates & Scan! This could be a new business idea!” It was nice to have a laugh whilst lying in an awkward position haha!

I literally had the same thing 2 weeks ago during my first IVF cycle.

On the first scan they warned me that they may not be able to access my left ovary as it was behind my uterus. After my next few scans it became so big it was clearly freely accessible!

Have faith - your ovaries will get much bigger in the coming days and make it easier to ger to. The fertility doctors also told me - to put it bluntly - they can be a 'a lot more aggressive' during egg collection when you're asleep.

Your clinic will do everything they can to get to leftie - fingers crossed it works out for you 🤞🏼
