Coming week, we will have a new puncture (egg retrieval) and yesterday I started bleeding heavily. It is like a very heavy period. I was expecting the injections to delay the period, at least that is what happened in the previous IVF cycle. I talked to the doctor and also a nurse today on the phone and they think that it is fine and we can still continue with the egg retrieval when the follicles are ready (they will be checked on Tuesday ultrasound appointment). Even though the doctor and nurse sounded cool, not panicking like me, I still do not understand how period can start and if the period starts then how the eggs can be still there?

Bleeding before egg retrieval
Hi there, yes, you can bleed and have follicles. I was bleeding through the whole stims phase and had very heavy bleeding 4 days before the egg collection. My lining was reduced to only 2 mm before the egg collection day but by then, my fresh transfer had already been cancelled and changed to freeze all cycle. Doctors couldnt explain what was going on and recommended to continue with the treatment and egg collection. I insisted on getting the blood tests done which showed very high levels of progesterone and one of the later scans discovered two hemarogical cysts. My situation could be different to yours though. Doctors / nurses can see follicles on the scan and can do the blood tests.
Hi. Only just seen this. Most probably do egg retrieval, then do a freeze all cycle once the eggs are fertilised. The bleeding hopefully won’t impact on the follicles. Good luck. Diane
