Cost and availability of hysteroscopy in Leeds, UK

Hello, does anybody know the cost and availability of hysteroscopy in Leeds, UK...

Is it something I could arrange quickly? I'm not sure where and at what cost... Maybe Spire or Nuffield. I think Care fertility no longer offer.

really disappointed that you’re having to sort this yourself. Surely the gynae team managing your miscarriage have a duty of care to remove all retained tissue due to bleeding and infection risk. I agree that hysteroscopy is probably the best way to manage this as the aim is to target the retained tissue and avoid causing trauma which can lead to scarring and ashermanns syndrome which can impair implantation in the future.

I’m not based in Yorkshire so sadly can’t advise. I hope your insurance covers this. It’s not cheap at all.

Thank you so much for giving me courage to push back on this. The registrars I spoke to today were keen to discharge me to see if it would pass on it's own (which clearly isn't happening after all the attempts to remove the tissue).

I tested positive on a pregnancy test last Thursday then material was found on the scan in Prague. However I had to do a pregnancy scan at the gynae clinic in the UK this morning and they said it tested negative so weren't even going to scan me! I had the scan as I told them about the scan in Prague and they found 10mm (1cm) of retained tissue at the fundus.

I insisted on speaking to a consultant based on info from you and this forum and finally got a call back this evening. He clearly thought it should be removed and was really nice, explaining the options. Found it really hard to choose the intervention but booked in for a MVA with ultrasound on Friday. Lots of pros and cons!

For anyone searching on here - I found out the cost of a hysteroscopy at spire in Leeds starts at around £2,600, with an additional consultation fee of about £300

I had an MVA for 15mm retained tissue on 29th Dec after 5 weeks of 2 x attempts at medical treatment, lots of waiting, a period (pretty sure it was one) and covid. I chose MVA because my fertility consultant said it was probably least traumatic to the endometrium as its a soft flexible catheter and manual aspiration, compared with other surgical options. I really wanted to avoid anything invasive because I was scared of adhesions that might affect future transfer but it seems like hysteroscopy isn't offered easily. It was very quick, used some gas and air and took some codeine and paracetamol. Took a gel heat pad for afterwards but recovery was fine. I've had 2 normal cycles since with no issues. Thank you so much, that's good to know. I do worry about scarring but it seems MVA is a better option, and as you say hysteroscopy isn't very available.

I am confused if I had a period as after my first MVA I bled for a few days, had no bleeding for a few days, then bleed for about 5 days following procedure. I assumed it was a period, but as I had positive pregnancy test afterwards it can't have been?

I have 10mm of retained tissue and am concerned it will be difficult to precisely remove. Did you check it was cleared just by negative pregnancy test or scan? My pregnancy test was negative apparently but the tissue showed on the scan.

They did a bedside transabdominal scan before and after the procedure at the time. I had a faint positive beforehand and then retested 2 weeks later and was negative. All those little points in the process are really hard. I wanted the actual process to be over, in order to focus on healing, but the reminders that it's over and the feelings of loss and the grief was really hard.I had a 5 day bleed 28 days after my spontaneous miscarriage (missed MC so hormones had started to drop) inspite of having retained tissue and faint pregnancy test. It was the same length as my usual period. I was told by the EPU nurses that it can't have been a period. I then had a period exactly 28 days after this bleed (only 19 days from MVA) and another 28 days after that. So I think the first must have been a period giving the regularity and how it was. I think we know our bodies better than anyone else. Hope things settle soon for you. X

Thank you, that's good to know. I'm just glad I waited until after my collections to do the frozen transfer (even though they were all negative and nothing in the freezer now). I had no idea missed miscarriages could go on so long (I transferred on my 16 October cycle). Sorry to everyone who has gone through this x
